Retired detective Kogoro Akechi continues pursuing the elusive Lupin III despite his advanced age. Little is known about his background beyond his celebrated career as an investigator.

Observing a standoff where Lupin is cornered by police, including Inspector Zenigata, at a mansion, Akechi arrives. Using a walking stick, he remarks to Zenigata on the difficulty of capturing Lupin. He suggests he might have a plan and asks if Zenigata wants him to try. Akechi slowly approaches the building, throws a rope with a hook to a window, and ties the other end to a police car's bumper. He gets into the car and drives away with Daisuke Jigen and Fujiko Mine, who escape using a kite. This figure was later revealed to be Lupin III disguised as Akechi. The genuine Kogoro Akechi had been present the entire time and smiled upon seeing Lupin successfully impersonate him.

This event demonstrates Akechi's awareness of Lupin's methods and his apparent amusement at being impersonated.
