Description
Hildegard Minas Lestia, often referred to as Hilde, is a central supporting character introduced in the second season of the anime. She is the first princess of the Knight Kingdom of Lestia, a nation known for its powerful military and chivalric traditions. As royalty, she holds the official title of First Princess and is the younger sister of Reinhard Yunas Lestia, as well as the daughter of King Reid Yunas Lestia and Queen Esther Minas Lestia.

In terms of appearance, Hilde is a tall, slender teenager with a well-built physique befitting a knight. She has flawless white skin, long blonde hair typically tied up in a bun or braid, and striking blue eyes. Her usual attire consists of a red and white dress paired with a white cape, black thigh-high stockings, and knee-high boots. When engaging in combat, she dons a set of magically enchanted mithril armor decorated with gold, which initially bears the crest of the Lestia royal family.

Personality-wise, Hilde embodies the ideals of knighthood. She is dignified, chivalrous, and carries a strong sense of responsibility as a leader of her kingdom's knights. She speaks in a formal manner, reflecting her royal upbringing, but this serious exterior often cracks when it comes to matters of romance. She has a noted tendency to blush easily, particularly in her interactions with Touya Mochizuki, highlighting her genuine but inexperienced approach to love. Beyond her knightly duties, she is deeply passionate about swordsmanship and is considered a sword art nut, a trait she shares closely with her friend Yae Kokonoe.

Hilde's primary motivation is the protection and prosperity of her kingdom, Lestia. She takes her role as a royal knight seriously, often leading the knight brigade. Her initial encounter with the protagonist, Touya Mochizuki, occurs when he comes to the aid of her kingdom during an attack by the Phrase in the city of Merica. Touya's strength, bravery, and efforts in defending her homeland leave a deep impression on her, sparking her admiration and subsequent romantic feelings for him.

Within the story, Hilde serves as a valuable combat ally and eventually becomes one of Touya's wives. After her kingdom forms an alliance with Touya's territory of Brunhild, she becomes engaged to him and later marries him, becoming the Third Queen of the Brunhild Dukedom. Upon marriage, she takes on the name Hildegard Mochizuki or Brunhild. Her relationships with the other characters are significant. She forms a particularly strong bond with Yae Kokonoe, bonding over their mutual love of the sword and training together daily. She also has a somewhat strained but familial relationship with her grandfather, the former king, whom she finds exasperating due to his lecherous behavior.

Hildegard undergoes notable development from a formal princess solely dedicated to her homeland to a loyal wife and queen of Brunhild. While she retains her knightly dignity, she becomes more integrated into the close-knit family of Touya's other fiancées and wives. Her romantic relationship with Touya develops through mutual respect and combat, though it is noted that her engagement was encouraged by the peer pressure of the other fiancées. She eventually becomes the mother of a daughter named Freigard Mochizuki.

Regarding her abilities, Hilde is a highly proficient swordswoman, often hailed as the Knight Princess for her exceptional skill. She has mastered the Lestia-style swordsmanship, which includes several powerful techniques. These named attacks include the Lestian Sacred Sword: First Cutter (a wind blade), Second Wardance (a fury dance), Third Shear (iron slash), Fifth Swirl (spiral attack), and Sixth Roaring Thunder (a thunderclap strike). Her swordsmanship skill is such that she surpasses Touya in melee combat when he refrains from using magic. Beyond her physical prowess, she possesses a Dependent Trait known as Improved Fighting Power, which is a divine blessing granted to her as a Retainer of the god Moroha Mochizuki, further enhancing her combat capabilities. She also pilots a personal Frame Gear, a type of magical mecha, named Siegrune, which is designed for heavy melee attacks.
