ONA
Description
Masaki Meguro, a character from the anime Kengan Ashura, is a highly dangerous and mentally unstable fighter known by the epithet the Crying Man because he sheds tears of blood during combat, an effect of his overwhelming pleasure in fighting and killing. He comes from a family of judo practitioners and was himself a judo prodigy, but he was never able to control his innate murderous impulses. At the age of thirteen, he killed his father and brothers, and possibly also his judo friends, an event that forced him to flee and live as a fugitive hunted by the police for twenty years. He eventually resurfaced in the world of underground fighting under the patronage of the wealthy and influential Hayami Katsumasa, who used him as a murderous mercenary. Under Hayami’s orders, Meguro became the affiliated fighter for Umiichi Securities during the Kengan Annihilation Tournament. Personalitywise, Meguro is described as clinically insane, exhibiting severe sadistic, masochistic, and psychopathic tendencies. He experiences intense joy only when inflicting or receiving pain, and his expression during battle often alternates between a wide, blood‑filled grin and a cry of ecstasy. His damaged right eye is part of his disturbing appearance. Despite his apparent lack of self‑control, he possesses a sharp tactical mind in combat, able to analyze opponents and exploit their weaknesses, but his violent compulsions frequently override any strategic thinking. His fighting style is a brutal, instinctive blend of high‑level judo techniques and his own deranged physicality, allowing him to deliver powerful throws, joint locks, and crushing strikes while ignoring pain that would cripple ordinary fighters. In the Kengan matches, Meguro quickly establishes himself as a terrifying opponent, but his lack of discipline and emotional volatility become his undoing. He is defeated in the tournament and later appears in flashbacks in the sequel series Kengan Omega, where he is shown training alongside a brother named Masaki, hinting at a complex family history that continues to resonate. Meguro’s role in the story is that of a pure, unrestrained force of violence—a foil for more disciplined fighters and a chilling example of what happens when raw talent and homicidal impulses are given free rein. His actions underline the dark, merciless nature of the Kengan world and leave a lasting impression on those who encounter him.
