Description
Pierrot, known as Piero Paperazzi in the Italian version and sometimes identified as Peter Duck in other adaptations, is a green mallard duck with a shiny green-blue head who appears among the main companions in the 2014 Calimero series. He comes from one of the most prominent families in the town of Belladagio, which is called Hatchington in the English dub. His father, Ambrogio Paperazzi, owns the Paperazzi department store, an ice cream factory and a brand of cars, and the family traces its lineage to the Cavalier of Belladagio, the founder of the town. Pierrot is the older brother of his younger sister Susanna, often called Susy.
In terms of personality, Pierrot is boastful, somewhat vain and occasionally stingy, traits that fit his upbringing in a wealthy household. At the same time, he is presented as a good-natured and easygoing free spirit with a heart of gold. He would rather share a snack than win an argument, and his calm manner is not the same as agreeing with everything, since he has firm opinions of his own and a playful rebellious side. He enjoys thinking of himself as the leader of his group, even though his friends do not always accept him in that role. Beneath his confident exterior, he is fiercely loyal and will support his friends without hesitation when they need him.
Within the story, Pierrot is one of Calimero's closest friends and a regular member of the central circle, which also includes Priscilla and Valeriano. The four spend time together at school, share adventures and visit the old Mill, where the inventions of Calimero's great-great-grandfather are found. His friendly position in the 2014 series represents a clear development from the character's earlier history, in which he began as a rival who constantly tormented Calimero; in later versions he becomes a good friend instead, although his boastful nature never fully disappears. Several episodes place him at the center of the action, including a birthday episode and an installment titled Pierrot the Prodigy that showcases his cleverness.
His notable abilities are not supernatural or heroic. His main strengths are his self-confidence, his relaxed charm, his ambition to lead and his deep loyalty, together with the practical advantages that come from his family's wealth and business connections.
