Description
The character known in English materials as the Principal, and as the Director in the original Japanese version, is the head of Otonokizaka High School in the anime Love Live! School idol project. She is also the mother of Kotori Minami, one of the founding members of the school idol group μ's. Within the anime she is never given a personal name and is identified only by her position and her family relationship.

Her background is tied entirely to the school she oversees. Otonokizaka is a long-established girls' school facing the threat of closure because of a steady decline in enrollment, and the Principal is the authority who carries responsibility for the institution during this crisis. The story begins with the school's precarious situation, and the students' decision to form a school idol group to publicize the school and attract applicants is a direct response to the danger of closure. In this sense, the Principal's position defines the central conflict of the narrative: she represents the administrative reality of the school, while the main characters represent the student energy that ultimately changes the school's fate. As the story progresses, the closure plan is withdrawn, and the Principal remains in charge as the school regains its standing.

In personality, she is portrayed as calm, composed, and quietly supportive. She does not reject or obstruct the students' unusual project, and she treats the school idol group's activities with patience and goodwill. Her motivation is primarily a sense of duty toward the school and its students: she is the one who must convey difficult news about the school's future, but she is not presented as a villain or an obstacle. Instead, she is shown as an administrator who cares about the community she oversees and who is willing to let the students pursue their own solution. Her manner is gentle rather than strict, and she carries herself with the quiet dignity expected of someone in her position.

Her most important relationship is with her daughter Kotori. Because the Principal heads the very school Kotori attends, their bond exists on both a familial and an institutional level. The Principal is depicted as a warm and supportive mother, and Kotori's talent for fashion and costume design, which becomes one of her main contributions to μ's, is part of the home environment she grows up in. The family dynamic between them is presented without heavy conflict, even when the school's uncertain future touches their personal lives. Apart from Kotori, the Principal interacts mainly with students and staff in her official role, and she does not have close ties to the other main characters.

As a supporting character, the Principal has limited screen time and does not undergo a development arc of her own. Her significance in the story is structural: her authority establishes the stakes of the school closure, and her role as Kotori's mother adds a personal dimension to one of the main characters. She has no notable abilities in the sense of the performance skills the students develop; her influence comes from her position, and her defining traits are her calm demeanor, her sense of responsibility, and her care for both the school and her daughter.
