Description
Kiyotaka Ijichi serves as an assistant director at Tokyo Jujutsu High, where he functions as a central supervisor for administrative tasks and mission coordination. Born on April 20, he was a former student at the school who initially aspired to become a jujutsu sorcerer, but his path changed when the third-year student Satoru Gojo bluntly advised him to abandon that ambition and instead get a driver's license. Recognizing his own limitations in combat, Ijichi took this advice to heart and pursued a career as an assistant manager, a role that better suited his talents.

In terms of personality, Ijichi is typically reserved, calm, and rational, striving to maintain a professional and authoritative composure while on the job. He is highly responsible and mature, taking his duties very seriously, though he has a notable tendency to become anxious and nervous when situations go awry, particularly when dealing with the unpredictable behavior of his former classmate, Satoru Gojo. Gojo often belittles him or disregards regulations, which frustrates Ijichi and makes him a significant source of stress. Beneath his stiff, businesslike exterior, he is fundamentally kind-hearted and conscientious, and he struggles deeply with the moral conflict of sending young students, essentially children, into dangerous and potentially fatal missions.

His primary motivations stem from a strong sense of duty and a desire to protect the sorcerers he supports. He carries a heavy burden of guilt, particularly after incidents where students are harmed, such as when Yuji Itadori was killed on a mission Ijichi coordinated. This regret drives him to try to prevent similar outcomes in the future, even attempting to stop Yuji from heading into a confrontation with the cursed spirit Mahito. He works to support Satoru Gojo's vision for reforming the jujutsu world, even as he finds himself caught between Gojo's progressive goals and the demands of the conservative higher-ups.

Within the story, Ijichi's role is almost entirely logistical and non-combative. He is frequently seen driving sorcerers to their destinations, deploying curtains to conceal missions from civilians, briefing students on their objectives, and managing communications between teams. His expertise in clerical work is exceptional, with a noted specialty in using Excel, making him an indispensable part of the school's back-office operations.

His key relationships are defined by his time as a student. He shares a complex dynamic with Satoru Gojo; while Gojo's blunt criticism initially hurt, Ijichi later recognized that it saved his life by steering him away from a path he was unsuited for. Despite the constant stress Gojo causes him, Ijichi understands that Gojo trusts him implicitly, a realization that gives him a sense of purpose. He also attended school alongside Shoko Ieiri and was a junior to Kento Nanami, another figure whose presence tends to shake Ijichi's confidence due to a fear of making mistakes. He has a caring, albeit worried, attitude toward the young students like Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki.

Throughout the series, Ijichi demonstrates notable development, moving from a purely background support figure to a more integral part of major operations. After the Shibuya Incident, where he was critically injured by the curse user Haruta Shigemo, he survived thanks to emergency treatment and continued his duties. He later overcomes his fears and self-doubt to play a crucial role in the final battle against Ryomen Sukuna. In the Shinjuku Showdown, Ijichi was entrusted by Gojo with the vital task of setting up a barrier to deceive Sukuna about the true nature of the opening attack, allowing Gojo to land a powerful blow.

Regarding his abilities, Ijichi does not possess an innate cursed technique but is knowledgeable about jujutsu and capable of performing basic supportive skills. He can conjure simple shikigami and is proficient in barrier techniques, most notably deploying the "Curtain," a barrier used to hide the activities of sorcerers from ordinary people. While his combat ability is low and he is technically forbidden from fighting on the front lines, he is not entirely helpless and, with significant effort, could potentially exorcise a curse of the third grade. His true power lies entirely in his strategic and organizational mind, making him a major asset whose survival was considered a priority by the sorcerers he supported.
