Description
Arisa Southerncross is a recurring character from the Japanese manga and anime series Keroro. She is a girl with orange-red hair tied into two tails and red eyes, standing 155 centimeters tall and weighing 41 kilograms. Arisa is a resident of the Dark Zone, and her true nature differs between the manga and anime; in the anime adaptation, she is specifically portrayed as a talking doll that has existed for hundreds of years. Her name is a reference to the Southern Cross constellation.

For centuries, Arisa has worked as a Dark Hunter, pursuing and capturing creatures of the dark, such as aliens and cryptids, to absorb their bio-energy. Her ultimate goal is to collect enough of this energy to transform herself into a real human being. Her primary tool for combat and hunting is a cat-ear shaped hairband, which is actually a living entity named Nebula that she calls Daddy, and with whom she shares a deep, non-biological father-daughter bond. Without Nebula, Arisa has no direct fighting ability of her own. Her most notable power is a Gorgon-like ability that can turn anyone who meets her gaze directly into stone.

In terms of personality, Arisa is forceful and blunt, often lacking in common sense and social graces, which makes her poor at negotiating or communicating her feelings. She typically speaks in a masculine tone of voice and maintains a mostly expressionless face, only rarely offering a small smile. While she appears to be around the age of fourteen, her long life as a doll has left her emotionally isolated and inexperienced with everyday human activities.

Her role in the story is tied to the Hinata family, as she is a member of the Four Winds, a group of characters who surround them from the four cardinal directions; Arisa represents the South and is the only one of the four who is not partnered with a member of the Keroro Platoon. She becomes fixated on the human boy Fuyuki Hinata because his unique nature attracts the dark beings she hunts. Initially, her interest in him is purely transactional, but over time, she develops genuine feelings for him, and her interactions with him become the catalyst for her emotional development. Her claim that Fuyuki is hers leads to a lasting rivalry with the wealthy heiress Natsumi Hinata, who is also in love with him.

Throughout her appearances, Arisa undergoes a subtle but clear development. Starting as a solitary hunter who showed no mercy to her prey, she gradually begins to act on new, human-like feelings. She learns to perform simple chores, such as using a washing machine and cooking, and even starts making bento lunches for Fuyuki. Her character arc is defined by this slow awakening of emotion, as she starts to spare her targets and experiences kindness, moving away from her purely predatory existence.
