Description
Lance Corporal Dororo is a main character in the anime Keroro, originally known as Zeroro before his arrival on Earth. He is a member of the Keroro Platoon and holds the rank of lance corporal. Dororo is a frog-like alien from the planet Keron with a light blue body and wears a white cap marked with a red cross. Prior to his mission on Earth, he was one of the top assassins in the Keron Army, having undergone training in an elite assassin corps. Upon crash-landing on the planet, he became trapped in a bear trap and was rescued by the young female ninja Koyuki Azumaya and her dog. Inspired by this encounter, he adopted the name Dororo, taken from the forest where he was found, and chose to follow the way of the ninja.

Dororo's personality is defined by a gentle and kindhearted nature. He is a pacifist at heart and has a deep love for all living creatures and the natural world of Earth, which he has expressed as having fallen in love with. This affection for the planet motivates him to protect it rather than participate in invasion plans that would harm people, wildlife, or the environment. Despite his peaceful disposition, he remains a fierce fighter when necessary, relying on his exceptional stealth and speed-based combat skills.

A central aspect of Dororo's character is his tendency to be overlooked or forgotten by his platoonmates and others. This stems from a naturally weak presence or aura, a trait that has persisted since his childhood. When he is reminded of being neglected or when memories of past mistreatment surface, his so-called trauma switch activates, causing a purple, melancholy aura to emanate from him as he retreats into a corner to cry. These triggers often relate to childhood incidents involving Keroro, who frequently took advantage of Zeroro's kind nature, broke his possessions, or used him as a shield in games. Despite this history, Dororo does not hold grudges and remains humble and forgiving, retaining a sweet and gentle demeanor.

Dororo's primary motivation is to safeguard Earth and its inhabitants alongside Koyuki. He also seeks inner peace through meditation, gardening, and reading. He maintains a personal garden in the platoon's underground base where he cultivates both native Earth plants and alien flora, using gardening as a form of meditation to train his mental and physical swiftness. He often meditates perched on high places such as treetops or lampposts.

Within the Keroro Platoon, Dororo serves as the stealth operative and scout. His natural quietness and ability to go unnoticed make him an effective spy, and he frequently communicates with his teammates by sending paper shuriken notes that stick into Keroro's head. He is often left out of missions and excursions simply because his comrades forget about him, but when he does participate, his ninja abilities prove invaluable. His speech is marked by archaic samurai-style phrasing, ending sentences with de gozaru and referring to himself as sessha.

Key relationships include his bond with Koyuki Azumaya, who is his closest human friend and fellow ninja. She is the one person who consistently remembers him and does not trigger his trauma. His childhood friendships with Keroro and Giroro are complicated by the teasing and mistreatment he endured, yet he still considers them friends and does not seek revenge. This contrasts sharply with his former assassin partner Zoruru, who harbors resentment.

Over the course of the story, Dororo undergoes development from a trained killer into a peaceful guardian of Earth. He retains his formidable assassin capabilities but now channels them into protection and stealth operations rather than destruction. His notable abilities include unparalleled stealth, speed-based attacks, ninja techniques such as shuriken throwing and paper note delivery, and the capacity to meditate to maintain peak mental and physical condition. He also possesses knowledge of alien and Earth plants, which he cultivates in his garden. Dororo's trauma remains a recurring vulnerability, but his gentle spirit and dedication to nature and friendship define his role in the series.
