Description
Pierre Schmidt is a supporting character in the anime Lupin the Third Part 5, appearing in episode 17 of that series. He is introduced as a wealthy heir who is accused of murder, and this accusation forms the center of the episode's mystery. His life before the events of the story was shaped by business: he used to run a company that developed the technology used in security systems. That position came to an end when Count Maupassant bought the company and had Pierre let go. This dismissal is the most important detail of his backstory, tying him to a figure of greater wealth and influence who displaced him from his own enterprise.
In the story, Pierre serves as an episodic supporting character whose personal circumstances and the charge against him give the episode its dramatic focus. His connection to the murdered person and to the count who took over his company provides the background against which the episode's events unfold. He does not have an ongoing role in the series, and his appearance is limited to the events of that single installment. As a result, no prolonged character development is shown for him; his situation at the time of the story is all that the narrative presents. His personality is not the main emphasis of his appearance, and no particular skills or abilities of his are featured. What defines him is his status as a rich heir, his past as a developer of security system technology, and the question of whether he truly committed the crime of which he is accused.
