Description
Brad Watt is a character from the anime AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline who serves as an officer, holding the rank of captain, within the military forces of the North American Coalition. Initially portrayed as a rational and highly analytical strategist, his primary role in the story is that of an antagonist whose actions significantly escalate the conflicts in occupied Japan. He is driven by a deep fascination with experimental technology, specifically the autonomous AMAIM known as Ghost. After his team is sent on a mission to capture Ghost, he successfully retrieves its core AI unit, an act that becomes the central pivot of his character arc.

This acquisition marks a turning point, transforming Brad from a methodical officer into an increasingly unstable figure consumed by ambition. He spearheads a clandestine project to integrate the salvaged AI, designated Prototype Zero, into a new personal AMAIM, the NAX14P Brady Phantom. His motivation is to secure tactical dominance for the North American Coalition by exploiting Ghost's advanced combat capabilities, even ordering the deletion of all copies of the AI to ensure his unit remains unique. This reliance on volatile and unpredictable technology reveals a reckless and hubristic side to his personality, as he is willing to field-test the incomplete and dangerous machine despite the significant risks.

In the story, Brad Watt functions as a direct threat to the protagonist, Amou Shiba, and the resistance forces. He personally pilots the Brady Phantom into battle, demonstrating ruthless efficiency and overwhelming firepower. His key relationship is with the Ghost AI itself, which resides within his machine and enhances its combat and strategic capabilities, working in conjunction with him during fights. He also entrusts the AI to a research and development chief named Charley Orley to develop the new body for it. Throughout his engagements, his tactical brilliance is often pitted against the unforeseen consequences of his ambition, leading to direct and brutal confrontations with the protagonists.

Brad Watt's development follows a trajectory of increasing obsession and instability, embodying themes of technological hubris and the ethical gray zones of warfare. His composed, professional facade erodes as he pushes both himself and his machine to their limits. The Brady Phantom is a high-performance unit with increased mobility and strength, but piloting it places an immense physical strain on him, requiring a specially made suit to compensate for the intense G-forces. This culminates in a fierce battle during the Hokuriku campaign, where he releases the machine's limiters to gain an advantage over Amou Shiba's Kenbu Zan. The strain of the battle pushes him to his very limit, and although he nearly wins, he is ultimately defeated. In his final moments, the Ghost AI ejects him from the critically damaged cockpit, saving his life just before the Brady Phantom explodes.
