TV-Series
Description
Akane Suzumiya is the younger sister of Haruka Suzumiya and a character whose story unfolds across multiple timelines, from a peaceful school setting to the brutal war of the Muv-Luv Alternative world. She has light auburn hair, green eyes, and a slim, athletic build. Her birthday is October 20th.

In her earliest appearances, Akane is energetic, cheerful, and somewhat headstrong, sharing an exceptionally close bond with her older sister. She is a skilled competitive swimmer who deeply admires Hayase Mitsuki, the top swimmer at her school, viewing her as an idol. When her sister begins dating Narumi Takayuki, Akane develops warm feelings for him, seeing him as an older brother figure. However, this peaceful dynamic shatters after a tragic car accident leaves Haruka in a coma. Discovering that Mitsuki and Takayuki have started a romantic relationship while her sister is unconscious transforms Akane's admiration into intense hatred. She perceives this as a profound betrayal of her sister, compounded by her own unresolved romantic feelings for Takayuki and her disappointment in Mitsuki for abandoning her athletic potential. This period of her life is marked by bitterness, anger, and daily devotion to visiting her comatose sister, struggling with guilt over her own conflicted emotions.

In the spin-off story Akane Maniax, which bridges the gap to other timelines, Akane begins to move past this trauma. She is pursued by a persistent transfer student named Jouji Gouda. Initially hostile, she gradually softens, learning to be more honest about her own feelings. Her journey in this story helps her develop into the more open and sociable personality seen in the Muv-Luv Extra universe, where she attends the same school as other main characters, serves as the lacrosse team leader for her class, maintains a friendly rivalry with Sakaki Chizuru, and is a member of the swimming team.

In the war-torn reality of Muv-Luv Alternative, Akane's character is redefined by duty and sacrifice. She becomes one of the last two survivors of Training Squad 207A, holding the rank of Second Lieutenant. She is assigned as a Gun Sweeper to Flight C of the Special Task Force A-01 9th Squadron, with the callsign Valkyrie-5. Her primary motivation in this timeline is a powerful desire to become a Storm Vanguard pilot to protect both her sister Haruka and Mitsuki, whom she once again admires, though now for her exceptional piloting skills rather than her swimming. During the defense of Yokohama Base, she is injured upon learning of her sister's injuries, which prevents her from being deployed in the final Operation Ouka, forcing her to watch her comrades depart on their critical mission. Following the dissolution of the Alternative IV forces, Akane is transferred to Imperial Japanese Military Defense Force service, reassigned to the 11th Squadron Skuld of the Fuji Tactical Fighter Training Group, where she rises to the rank of First Lieutenant with the callsign Skuld-1. In Operation Sledgehammer, she demonstrates remarkable skill and courage by piloting a Shiranui Second equipped with the XM3 OS and a Type-02 Squad Support Gun. She executes an unprecedented and highly dangerous maneuver, crossing a BETA Hive's Main Shaft to provide critical fire support to isolated allied forces, using data originally recorded by the top-secret 00 Unit. She later participates in the operation to retake the Blagoveshchensk Hive. Akane's development across all these stories is a journey from a bitter, heartbroken girl to a resolute soldier and pilot, driven by a need to protect the people she once felt had betrayed her, demonstrating a deep capacity for loyalty, resilience, and personal growth.
