Description
Second Lieutenant Radium Lavans is an experienced LEV pilot for BAHRAM on Mars, renowned for exceptional combat skills offset by reckless tactics that often damage his machine. He harbors intense hatred for Earth's UNSF forces, fueled by their physical superiority over Martians and brutality, including an incident where they severely injured his comrade Will.
His relationships include camaraderie with fellow pilot Viola Gyune, who holds unrequited feelings for him, and a romance with Dolores Hayes, an assistant on Dr. Rachel Links' research team. Radium recruited Viola into BAHRAM, urging her to channel her hatred of Earth into service.
Transferred to Noctis base, Radium becomes the primary test pilot for the prototype Orbital Frame Idolo, powered by Metatron. Initial control difficulties give way to high proficiency, but prolonged Metatron exposure induces psychological deterioration, manifesting as increased aggression, sadism in combat, and a mental bond with Idolo that rejects other pilots like Viola.
During a UNSF raid to seize Idolo, Dolores is fatally shot protecting Dr. Links. Radium retrieves her body but collapses into a hallucination where he marries her in a chapel while Idolo battles autonomously. Viola fails to break the delusion, and Radium perishes when combined BAHRAM-UNSF forces destroy Idolo.
BAHRAM resurrects Radium as a cyborg with Metatron-based prosthetics. Assuming the alias Napth Pleminger, he poses as a businessman, inherits a Martian fortune, and secretly leads BAHRAM's military operations. He adopts orphans Rebecca, Axel, and Rully Hunter, indoctrinating them against Earth. Psychological instability persists, triggering violent rampages in the Frame Hathor when encountering an Orbital Frame named Dolores, which he perceives as impersonating his late lover.
Radium's final campaign targets Earth's Orbital Elevator to exterminate the population. During the assault, battling James Links in the Dolores Frame while experiencing chapel-themed delusions, he witnesses a vision of the Dolores Frame's AI (Dolores' daughter). Defeated, he expends his Metatron energy to stabilize the elevator, petrifying himself and his Frames. His death concludes with a smile.
