ONA
Description
Ichiro Umoregi, also known as the second Akuma-kun, is the protagonist of the 2023 anime. He is a tall boy with a slender frame, silver medium-length hair with bangs that frame his eyes, and a distinct tuft of hair that stands up, somewhat resembling an onion. His typical attire consists of a red shirt with thin lime green stripes, gray jeans, and red sneakers with white tips.

Ichiro's personality is markedly antisocial and apathetic. He is often blunt and tactless when interacting with clients and others, showing little regard for common social cues. A voracious bookworm, he has a strong affinity for literature, particularly texts on demonology and other supernatural subjects, and prefers to spend his time reading in solitude. He harbors a general distrust and low opinion of humanity, stating he does not trust other humans on principle. Despite his cold and distant front, he does possess a softer side, which he rarely shows. This is most evident in his relationship with his adoptive father, to whom he once admitted his fondness for his hotcakes.

His background is marked by abandonment. As a child, Ichiro was forsaken by both humans and demons before being taken in and raised by a scarlet demon named Strophaia, who called him Aeshma and attempted to mold him into a being devoid of humanity. He was rescued by Shingo Umoregi, the original Akuma-kun, who prevented him from committing a terrible act and subsequently adopted him. The exact details of his origins remain unclear.

Ichiro serves as the head of the Millennium Research Institute, a supernatural detective agency he runs with his partner, Mephisto III. He is tasked with investigating cases involving demons and pursuing the ultimate goal of creating the Millennium Kingdom, a utopia where humans and demons can coexist peacefully. However, he is largely disinterested in this grand mission, preferring to only take on cases that personally intrigue him and showing little sense of obligation toward the responsibilities of his title.

His key relationships are complex. His bond with his adoptive father, Shingo, is strained and tense. While Ichiro often acts cold and hostile toward him, he genuinely cares for him deeply, and much of his resentment seems to stem from underlying fears of abandonment and the pressure of his inherited role. In contrast, his partnership with Mephisto III is one of contrasting personalities, with Ichiro's pragmatism and apathy clashing against Mephisto III's optimism and dedication to their shared mission, a dynamic that encourages growth in both characters.

Throughout the story, Ichiro demonstrates notable development, evolving from a deeply distant and bookish individual into a more proactive figure. He begins to open his heart to others, and by the end of the series, he experiences a moment of self-reflection, realizing he should take chances with relationships rather than shutting everyone out. He ultimately acknowledges his bond with his adoptive father and recommits to their mission, even as some aspects of his past remain unresolved.

Ichiro possesses several notable abilities befitting his role as Akuma-kun. He is described as a once-in-ten-thousand-years genius with unparalleled intellect and deductive skills. His primary supernatural ability is summoning and controlling demons, which he performs by creating magic circles, a skill he taught himself. He also makes use of protective seals and artifacts such as Solomon's Flute to banish and control threats. He draws upon an immense and detailed knowledge of global mythological beings, demons, and occult practices, including spells in Hebrew and Latin, to identify and neutralize demonic influences. A peculiar character trait is his obsession with hotcakes, which serves as an emotional anchor tied to fragmented memories of his biological mother and functions as a rare catalyst for his emotional vulnerability.
