Description
Kitami is an antagonist encountered by the protagonist during the restricted rock-paper-scissors tournament aboard the cruise ship Espoir. He is a clear-headed and analytical man who quickly grasps the strategic depths of the seemingly simple game. Demonstrating a pragmatic and calculating personality, he forms a small team with two other debtors to systematically exploit the game's mechanics for guaranteed victory.

Kitami's primary motivation is purely transactional: to win the tournament, erase his debt, and secure his freedom. His role in the story is that of a formidable strategic rival who directly challenges the protagonist's own plans. Initially, Kitami devises a winning strategy of cornering the market on a single card type, specifically rock, to control the flow of the game. However, he discovers that the protagonist has independently arrived at the same tactic and has already purchased all the available rock cards. Unfazed, Kitami adapts and instead purchases all the paper cards, thereby neutralizing the protagonist's advantage and putting his own team in a dominant position.

Following this success, Kitami confidently approaches the protagonist, expressing admiration for his strategic insight and offering him the chance to be his final opponent in a direct gamble. This decision reveals a degree of pride and a desire to definitively outwit a worthy adversary. However, this overconfidence becomes his undoing. During their one-on-one match, the protagonist deduces Kitami's hand not through luck, but by carefully observing his behavior and a single, crucial tell. Kitami is shown casually fiddling with the card he intends to play, unconsciously signaling his choice before the match begins. This lapse in concentration allows the protagonist to secure a victory that strips Kitami of his stars and cripples his team's progress.

After the match, the protagonist dismantles Kitami's entire operation not through further gambling, but through psychological and economic warfare. He bribes Kitami's two teammates, exploiting their lack of genuine loyalty, to surrender their cards and stars. This leaves Kitami isolated and holding a worthless, unbalanced hand of cards. Facing certain defeat, a frustrated and cornered Kitami is forced to capitulate, handing over the remainder of his cards and a large sum of money just to end the game. His key relationships are purely strategic and short-lived, viewing his teammates as disposable tools rather than allies, a weakness that is ultimately exploited.

Kitami does not possess any supernatural or physical abilities, but his notable skill lies in his sharp, methodical intellect and his capacity for strategic planning. His development across his appearance is a negative one, moving from a position of confident control to one of humiliated defeat as his schemes are systematically dismantled by a more resourceful and psychologically astute opponent.
