Description
Mr. Wine is a minor supporting character who appears exclusively in the 1973 live-action film adaptation of Golgo 13, which was set and largely filmed in Iran. He works as the manager of a nightclub in Tehran and possesses inside knowledge of the city’s criminal underworld. His primary function in the story is to serve as an informant for the protagonist, Golgo 13. Through a private detective named Egbali, Golgo 13 learns that Mr. Wine can provide useful intelligence about the international crime syndicate led by the elusive Max Boa.

Mr. Wine is cooperative and willing to share what he knows, despite the obvious dangers of dealing with a professional hitman and a powerful gang. He tells Golgo 13 that the Boa gang operates out of the Old Town section of Tehran and that Boa himself is a bird lover. This information allows Golgo 13 to plan his approach. However, Mr. Wine’s involvement comes at a high cost. After he passes along the tip, the Boa gang discovers his betrayal and eliminates him. His death underscores the ruthless reach of the organization and the high stakes of the conflict.

In terms of personality, Mr. Wine appears to be a pragmatic figure who is willing to assist Golgo 13, likely for payment or out of a sense of self-preservation. He does not possess any notable combat abilities or special skills beyond his access to criminal networks and his knowledge of local affairs. His relationship with Golgo 13 is purely transactional and brief, ending when he is silenced by the gang. The character does not undergo any significant development; his role is that of a plot device who provides crucial information and then is removed from the story. His brief appearance highlights the episodic, procedural nature of the Golgo 13 narrative, where informants often serve as expendable sources of intelligence.
