Description
Eddie Lee is the founder, leader, and lead guitarist of the world-renowned American rock band Dying Breed. Despite being only sixteen years old at the start of the story, his appearance is remarkably mature, and his musical capabilities are formidable, having already achieved tremendous fame in the United States at a very young age.

Eddie’s background is one of hardship and survival. He was born and raised in the back alleys of New York, a harsh environment where he engaged in petty crime and drug dealing just to get by. He learned to play guitar from his biological father, but after his father's death, he suffered abuse from his stepfather, which drove him to leave home and live on the streets. It was during this time that he encountered Ryusuke Minami, a Japanese boy who was similarly lost and wandering. Recognizing a shared sense of loneliness, the two became close friends, and it was Eddie who taught Ryusuke how to play the guitar. He was also the one who identified a vintage Gibson Les Paul guitar, which Ryusuke found by chance, as the legendary instrument once owned by blues artist Sunny Boy Waters.

Driven by a grand dream to escape a life destined to end as trash in the slums, Eddie co-founded Dying Breed with his friend Matt. His personality is complex; he is fiercely dedicated to his music and ambition. This dedication, however, once led him to a moment of profound failure. When a band member named Shane was injured in a car accident, a younger, success-driven Eddie was short-sighted and harsh with Matt for being distracted, and he never even visited Shane in the hospital. He later carried immense guilt for this callousness.

In the story, Eddie Lee serves as a monumental figure, representing the pinnacle of rock stardom that the protagonist band Beck aspires to reach. He acts as a mentor and a source of profound inspiration for Ryusuke, who made a childhood vow to one day form a band worthy of playing on the same stage as Eddie. Eddie makes a surprise appearance at one of Beck’s early live shows, creating chaos simply by his presence. After the performance, he shares a piece of crucial advice with the young vocalist Yukio, saying, The guitar is humanity expressed with only six strings. On another occasion, he plays a portion of a new, unreleased song he is composing called Devils Way for Yukio over the phone, a moment that carries great significance later.

Eddie’s key relationship is with Ryusuke Minami. However, their bond becomes strained as Eddie’s fame skyrockets. Ryusuke, struggling to get his own band off the ground, fears he is being left behind and forgotten, leading to a major fight during which Ryusuke accuses Eddie of abandoning their childhood promise. Before Ryusuke can apologize, a tragedy occurs. While driving on a quiet road, listening to Beck’s new album, Eddie Lee is approached by a man and shot dead in an absurd, senseless act of violence. His death sends shockwaves through the music world. Ryusuke is devastated, falling into a deep depression before finally making peace at Eddie’s grave.

Following his death, the only person who knows of Devils Way is Yukio. The pressure of being the sole keeper of Eddie’s last work weighs heavily on him, but the song is eventually completed by the members of Beck and performed in honor of the late guitarist. Notably, while his name is a tribute to Geddy Lee of the band Rush, his visual appearance and some aspects of his character are strongly reminiscent of the late Kurt Cobain.
