TV-Series
Description
Kanade Uryu, also known by his public alias Metropoliman, is a sixteen-year-old high school student and one of the thirteen candidates chosen to succeed God in the selection process. He is the grandson of the principal of the prestigious Joso Academy and the main antagonist of the story. He was selected as a God candidate by the angel Meyza. Physically, Kanade has wavy white hair, narrow eyes with long lashes, a slim heart-shaped face, and a slender figure. In public, he wears a costume modeled after a television superhero called Metropoliman.
Kanade appears to be a perfect young aristocrat, blessed with good looks, physical ability, high intelligence, and family wealth. Behind this polished image, however, he is deeply arrogant, cruel, and callous toward other humans. He is able to take the lives of others without a second thought and demonstrates a complete lack of empathy. His actions are driven by a singular goal: he intends to become God by any means necessary, including killing all other candidates. His motivation for this is rooted in a tragic personal loss—he wishes to bring his deceased younger sister Rea back to life.
In the story, Kanade operates as a serial killer of other God candidates using his Metropoliman alias. He initially pretends to be a hero of justice, using his angel wings and arrows to help the police and gain public trust. This public persona serves as a cover to more easily identify and eliminate other candidates. He kills at least four other candidates and claims their wings and arrows for himself. Through this, he discovers that multiple arrows can be combined to increase their range and that the arrows and wings he acquires can be bestowed upon other individuals, allowing him to create subordinates to do his bidding.
Kanade's key relationships are defined by his rivalry with the protagonist Mirai Kakehashi and his deep emotional attachment to his deceased sister Rea, whose memory drives his entire campaign. His alliance with his angel Meyza is one of mutual convenience. His role in the story is to be the first major obstacle that Mirai and the other non-killer candidates must overcome.
Kanade's development is marked by his increasing power and confidence as he accumulates abilities, followed by his eventual downfall in a confrontation with Mirai. Despite his strategic mind, he experiences a moment of hesitation during a critical battle, which allows Mirai to exploit an opening and defeat him.
His notable abilities include the standard God candidate powers of angel wings and angel arrows. He can fly using his wings and use the red arrow to kill and the white arrow to stop the target's heart temporarily. Through his accumulation of other candidates' items, he can combine arrows for increased reach and give wings and arrows to non-candidates, turning them into extensions of his will.
