Description
Haruki Hayashida, more commonly known by his nickname Pah-chin, is a character from the anime Tokyo Revengers. He serves as the captain of the Third Division of the Tokyo Manji Gang and is recognized as one of the organization's founding members.
Physically, Pah-chin is depicted as being of short and stocky build, standing at 164 centimeters tall and weighing 80 kilograms. He has slanted eyes and, during his time as an active delinquent, sports a notable hairstyle consisting of bleached hair styled into a mohawk with the sides of his head shaved. He bears distinguishing marks including a small scar beneath his left eye and a stitch on the left side of his lower lip. He is typically seen wearing the traditional uniform of the Tokyo Manji Gang. In his later years as a young adult, he allows his hair to return to its natural black color and adopts more formal attire befitting his professional career.
Pah-chin's personality is defined by a combination of brash impulsivity and profound loyalty. He initially presents as a brusque and rude individual, reacting aggressively to minor provocations. By his own admission, he is not particularly intelligent, a trait his close friends readily agree with and one he sometimes uses as an excuse for his actions, much to the frustration of other leaders who prefer strategic thinking over brute force. Despite this, his defining characteristic is his unwavering loyalty to his friends and loved ones, for whom he is willing to risk his life without hesitation. His motivations are simple and straightforward: to protect his friends and fight for their happiness.
His role in the story is heavily tied to a pivotal conflict that erupts between the Tokyo Manji Gang and a rival gang called Moebius. The inciting incident occurs when one of Pah-chin's close friends is brutally assaulted and his friend's partner is attacked by members of Moebius. This event fills Pah-chin with a desire for revenge. Although he initially holds back to avoid dragging Tokyo Manji into a dangerous fight, his rage is fully unleashed when he is given authorization to retaliate. He confronts the Moebius leader, Nobutaka Osanai, and is easily defeated in a physical fight due to Osanai's boxing expertise. However, after regaining consciousness, Pah-chin stabs Osanai in the back as the police arrive, refusing to let him escape punishment. He subsequently turns himself in to the authorities, an act that leads to his incarceration in a juvenile detention center and creates internal strife within the Tokyo Manji Gang.
One of his most significant relationships is with Ryohei Hayashi, known as Peh-yan, who serves as the vice-captain of the Third Division. They are inseparable, and Pah-chin's favorite place is Peh-yan's house. He also holds deep respect for the gang's founder, Manjiro Sano, also known as Mikey, and it is his dream to win a fight against him.
Throughout different timelines, Pah-chin's development is notable. Following his release from detention, he undergoes a significant transformation. He takes over his family's real estate business, an industry from which his family derives its wealth. Despite previously claiming to be stupid, he demonstrates precise business acumen and attention to detail, turning his family's venture into a commercial success. In some divergent timelines, his fate is grim, as he is executed by Mikey's orders, while in others, he survives, marries his childhood friend, and becomes a wealthy and successful businessman.
His notable abilities lie primarily in his fighting prowess and physical durability. He was long considered one of the strongest fighters in the Tokyo Manji Gang, possessing enough raw power to defeat multiple opponents. His greatest asset in combat is his incredible toughness; he has proven capable of taking a severe beating and still remaining conscious, even surviving a powerful kick to the neck from Mikey. His secondary ability is his surprising skill in business management, which he develops in his adult years.
