Description
Jaiko Gouda is the younger sister of the character Gian, known as Takeshi Gouda. She made her first appearance in the very first chapter of the original manga, which was before her brother was formally introduced into the series. The name Jaiko is generally considered a nickname, as the original creator never provided her with a formal real name. In terms of physical appearance, Jaiko is a short, chubby girl with short black hair, which gives her a resemblance to her older brother. Her typical outfit has varied across different adaptations; in the 1979 anime, she usually wears a red overall skirt with a white top and a beret alongside a manga artist's hat. In the 2005 anime series, her design was updated to include a green top with a flower decoration, while still keeping the artist's hat.

The personality of Jaiko underwent a significant evolution from the story's beginning. Initially, she was portrayed as snobby and mean-spirited, often playing pranks on Nobita and taking pleasure in his misfortune. This early characterization was short-lived, and in most subsequent appearances, she developed into a kind, gentle, and considerate person, which stands in stark contrast to the hot-blooded and aggressive nature of her brother Gian. In later adaptations, including the 2005 remake, this kinder personality was established as her default from the start, with her original unpleasant traits being transferred to a minor character named Botako. She is also depicted as being quite skilled in domestic activities such as cooking and sewing.

Her primary motivation and dream is to become a professional manga artist. As an aspiring mangaka, she works under the pen name Christine Goda, and she regularly submits her stories to publishing companies for contests and prizes. However, she frequently fails to win these contests because her storytelling skills are still rough and underdeveloped, which is a major source of frustration for her. When she becomes discouraged and decides to give up on writing comic books, her brother Gian often forces or strongly requests his friends to cheer her up and encourage her to continue. Despite her current struggles, it is established that in the future, she will become a very successful and famous writer, with her manga selling millions of copies.

Within the story, Jaiko serves several roles. Her most notable role is tied directly to the central premise of the series. In the original future timeline that Doraemon was sent to change, Jaiko was destined to become Nobita's wife. An episode showing a possible future depicted Nobita standing at an altar with Jaiko, though this was later revealed to be a commemoration for the success of her manga rather than a wedding. Her future success as an artist is assured after Doraemon's intervention, even if her marriage to Nobita is not. She is also a character who provides a softer side to the otherwise intimidating Gouda family.

Jaiko's key relationships are primarily with her family members. Her relationship with her brother Gian is strong; though they are siblings who may argue, they get along well. Gian is extremely protective of her, to the point where he will intimidate anyone who criticizes her manga, much to her own annoyance, as she genuinely wants honest feedback to improve. With her mother, Mrs. Gouda, Jaiko has a very good relationship. Her mother is kind to her and treats her more favorably than Gian, assigning her fewer chores at the family grocery store due to her good behavior. She has had romantic interests in the past, including a crush on a seventh grader named Moteo. Her abilities lie mainly in her artistic talent and drawing, though her narrative weakness is crafting emotionally resonant stories. One notable ability is her skill in cooking, which is starkly superior to her brother Gian's famously terrible attempts in the kitchen.
