Description
Nabekichi is a character from the anime Saikyo Kamizmode!, where he appears as a Gouriki-shin, a type of battle god. He is specifically the god of a cooking pot, and his full name, Knight of Bay Side Kitchen, is often shortened to Nabekichi. His design resembles a bird that has landed inside a pot, and he speaks with a distinctive verbal tic, ending his sentences with "~chan."
Nabekichi possesses a dignified and composed personality, but he is also warm and approachable, reflecting his connection to cooking and hospitality. His primary motivation is to find a worthy partner, known as a oyakata, and to compete in the Kamizumo battles. He is a skilled cook, particularly known for making chanko nabe, and his combat abilities revolve around fire and hot wind. His signature technique is the Boiling Steam Push, where he creates a palm made of steam to deliver a powerful slap.
In the story, Nabekichi becomes the partner of Sonozaki Susumu, a kind-hearted classmate of the protagonist Dai Mugen. Susumu gradually awakens his spiritual power and joins the Kamizumo competition after meeting Nabekichi. Their relationship develops as they learn to trust and support each other in battle.
Nabekichi has a notable past relationship with Zangien, the god of a sword. The two once ran wild together, but when Zangien was recruited by the antagonistic Jarikishin faction, Nabekichi chose to walk his own path. During his escape, he was attacked and lost much of his power, falling to the human world in a weakened, chick-like state. This setback forms part of his character development, as he later regains strength through his bond with Susumu.
Nabekichi also possesses a unique ability to generate eight clone-like entities collectively called the Nabenjers. These include Nabeo, Nabeko, and others, each with a distinct personality such as a brash youth, a flirtatious type, a crybaby, and an intellectual. They are more akin to clones than offspring and each has their own variant of the steam-based push attack.
Overall, Nabekichi is a veteran Gouriki-shin with a culinary background, a dignified yet friendly demeanor, and a history that ties him to both the main conflict and the broader lore of the Kamizumo world. His journey from a fallen, weakened state to a reliable partner for Susumu forms a key part of his narrative arc.
