Description
Junjirō Takagi, known in Japanese as Takagi Junjirou, is a character from the idolmaster franchise who serves as the president of the 765 Production talent agency. He is 56 years old, stands 180 centimeters tall, and weighs 73 kilograms. His birthday is July 6th. He is the cousin of Junichiro Takagi, who originally held the position of president before him. When Junichiro was promoted to chairman, Junjirō took over the management of the agency.
Junjirō is portrayed as an optimistic and somewhat eccentric man with a noticeably relaxed and cheerful personality. His hobbies include sketching shadows, playing crane games, and performing magic tricks, the last of which he sometimes showcases at office parties. He has a unique sense of aesthetics and is known for his tendency to address his idols with the masculine honorific "-kun." One of his most defining traits is his talent for scouting talent, famously acting on a feeling or a hunch about a person's potential. This ability is noted to be quite sharp, earning a mention from the rival executive Takao Kuroi. His usual attire includes a suit and a pair of glasses, though his face is often partially obscured in anime adaptations.
His role within the story is that of a supportive and hands-off mentor. He places great trust in the producer, entrusting them with the development of the idols and major projects like the 39 Project in Million Live! Unlike the more aggressive and business-focused Kuroi, Junjirō believes in a collaborative and positive work environment. He has a deep-seated conviction that the greatest live performances are created when the entire production works together as a single unit. This philosophy stems from his own past experiences as a producer.
Junjirō was not always the affable president seen in the present day. In his younger years, he was a successful but perhaps more rigid producer, working alongside Takao Kuroi. Together, they produced an idol named Kotomi Otonashi, who was the mother of the production assistant Kotori Otonashi. When Kotomi disappeared before a live performance due to an illness, Junjirō took responsibility, but the incident left him disillusioned and helpless for a long time. This tragic event is the key to his character development, as it transformed him from a producer with unwavering beliefs into the open-minded and patient president who values the well-being of his idols above all else. After leaving his former agency, he and his cousin founded 765 Production, where he later scouted a young Kotori Otonashi to be their first idol.
His relationship with Kotori Otonashi is particularly significant, rooted in his history with her late mother. He acts as a supportive employer and fatherly figure to her. He also has a long-standing and complex rivalry with Takao Kuroi, who views Junjirō's change in philosophy as a form of betrayal. Junjirō rarely takes Kuroi's attempts to undermine him seriously, maintaining his characteristic calm and even-tempered nature in the face of conflict. Junjirō also considers the series producer to be a vital asset, trusting their judgment and giving them considerable freedom to manage the idols.
In The Idolmaster Million Live! and its related games and anime, Junjirō Takagi remains a central figure as the president of 765 Production. He is seen giving final approval for new projects, attending auditions to welcome new idols, and overseeing the growth of the agency's expanding roster. His steadfast belief in the power of idols and his gentle wisdom serve as a guiding force for both the staff and the performers under his care.
