Description
Infant Mars arrived on Earth from Gishin aboard the giant robot Gaia, carrying a hidden anti-proton bomb set to annihilate the planet upon his death or remote activation. Discovered by Dr. Tadashi Myoujin and Shizuka during an expedition, he was raised as Takeru Myoujin in Japan, forging profound loyalty to Earth that clashed with his mission from Emperor Zuul—Gishin’s ruler pursuing galactic conquest.
Takeru wields extensive psychic abilities: telepathy, telekinesis, elemental control (fire/electricity), duplication, healing, underwater breathing, non-physical interaction, and teleportation. His precognition warns of imminent threats, especially Gishinite assaults. Acrobatic and combat-trained, he duels with swords and mentally summons/pilots Gaia via psychic link.
Initially oblivious to his origins, Takeru piloted for Earth’s Cosmo Crusher Squad. Learning his identity as Mars, he defied Zuul by refusing to detonate Gaia’s bomb. He uncovered five additional robots—Sphinx, Uranus, Titan, Shin, and Ra—hidden by his biological father. Commanding "Six God Combination," they merge with Gaia into God Mars. As its pilot, Takeru unleashes God Fire (paralyzing chest beam), Mars Flash sword, and the finisher Final God Mars.
His twin brother, Prince Marg, held captive on Gishin, telepathically alerted Takeru to dangers until Zuul brainwashed him into an enemy. Their emotionally charged battles culminate in Marg’s death, haunting Takeru. Rose, Marg’s Gishin handler, defects to aid Earth, forming an underdeveloped romantic bond with Takeru. She later operates as the "Rose Knight," disrupting foes during his vulnerabilities.
Three arcs define his journey: The Gishin conflict pits Takeru against assassins and Marg while mastering God Mars, aided later by Marg’s pendant for swift robot summoning. In the Marume arc, he protects refugee princess Flore across interstellar distances. The final arc sees Zuul shackle Takeru with life-draining "Devil Rings" that sap his vitality during power usage or God Mars summoning, forcing dependence on Rose Knight.
Climaxing in an afterlife dimension, God Mars absorbs global psychic energy to achieve a golden form. Executing "Super Final God Mars," Takeru permanently destroys Zuul—overcoming the emperor’s cosmic-cell-based regeneration—and channels Gaia’s bomb into the attack. Post-victory, Takeru either ascends transcendentally or departs with Rose to rebuild Gishin, securing Earth’s safety.
The 1988 OVA "God Mars: The Untold Legend" explores Marg’s backstory without altering Takeru’s role. Alternate adaptations like 1994’s "Shinseikiden Mars" OVA follow the manga separately. Takeru features in crossovers like "Super Robot Wars," performing "Double Final God Mars" alongside a redeemed Marg.
Vulnerabilities include the bomb’s death-activation (resolved post-climax), Devil Rings’ life-drain (removed after Zuul’s defeat), and God Mars’ susceptibility to opposing magnetic fields disrupting its combination. Takeru withstands severe physical assaults, including Zuul’s afterlife attacks.
