Description
Dr. Obami, alias Demon King Over-M, emerged from the fusion of ancient demons' dying wishes and fragments of deceased Idaten deities who sacrificed themselves to seal those demons 800 years prior. This hybrid origin granted him fractured memories from both sides, including recollections of an elder Idaten known to Rin as "grandpa."
Upon manifestation, Obami founded the Zoble Empire, ruling initially as its first emperor under the name "Emperor Obama." During his reign, he pioneered a method to create intelligent demons by fusing newborn demons with human infants, raising the resulting hybrids as his children. He later faked his death, relinquished power to a successor named Takeshita, and adopted the identity of "Dr. Obami," working within the empire's military chemical division.
Physically, Obami presents as a bald, elderly man with a large crooked nose, sly eyes, and a thin frame. His signature attire combines a light purple shirt, green necktie, purple pants, and a lab coat. In his youth as emperor, he possessed a conventionally handsome appearance with brown hair. After his apparent demise in Episode 8, he lost his original body and began transferring his consciousness into new vessels, including a human recruit named Pete.
Personality-wise, Obami exhibits calm, strategic, and manipulative traits, singularly driven by ensuring demonkind's survival and prosperity. He demonstrates genuine care for demons under his command despite a generally cold demeanor. Like other demons and Idaten, he views humans primarily as breeding resources but treats his human subordinates relatively well compared to typical demon attitudes. Following the Zoble Empire's collapse and the near-extermination of demons by the Idaten, his personality descends into overt sadism and relentless vengeance against the deities.
His abilities encompass genius-level intellect in mechanical and bioengineering sciences, utilized to revive demons, create hybrid soldiers, and enhance himself with cybernetic implants. As an Idaten fragment, he possesses functional immortality but cannot regenerate body parts like typical deities, necessitating consciousness transfer into robotic or organic vessels when damaged, which also facilitates disguise. He ranks as the third-smartest character in his universe, surpassed only by the human scientist Miku and the Idaten Ysley.
Throughout events, Obami orchestrates the resurrection of the ancient demon Gyudo to test the current Idaten's capabilities. After Gyudo's defeat, he coordinates assassination attempts against younger deities using his demon subordinates, though these largely fail. He later confronts Rin directly during the Idaten assault on Zoble, exploiting inherited memories to psychologically destabilize her. Presumed dead in a catastrophic explosion during this encounter, he evades destruction by transferring his consciousness. In the aftermath, he collaborates with remaining demons and Miku, executing a plan to capture and torture the immortal deities Ysley and Paula while freeing other demons from neural modifications.
