Description
Nike originates from Jimina Mura, meaning Plain Old Village. His father, Bado, harbored aspirations of heroism but abandoned this dream due to a perceived lack of significant evil to fight. Consequently, Bado subjected Nike to rigorous combat training from childhood, hoping his son could fulfill the heroic role should a threat arise. This training granted Nike competent combat skills, yet he often displays cowardice in confrontations. His mother, Rena, employs unconventional methods to influence him, such as incapacitating him with a poison dart during an attempted escape and preparing meals resembling adventuring maps that poison him if consumed incorrectly.
Initially drawn to becoming a wizard by the allure of casting fireballs, Nike was persuaded by his parents to pursue the hero class instead. Both he and others believed he was destined for this role, though it was later revealed his true class is Thief. Despite this classification, he retains the ability to utilize hero-exclusive skills, including the Gallant Pose technique.
Nike exhibits traits of curiosity, impulsiveness, and naiveté, often approaching situations with optimism and a thirst for new experiences. His demeanor shifts from initial immaturity and inexperience toward gradual development. He begins his journey feeling inferior to Kukuri, particularly in magical knowledge, but discovers latent strength through their adventures. This growth involves learning from mentors like the swordsmanship instructor Gochinko, who critiques Nike's poor technique, and overcoming challenges like battles against formidable adversaries such as Raid, an emissary from the demon world.
His primary quest, shared with Kukuri—whom he views romantically—involves defeating the demon king Giri, whose seal weakened after centuries. Throughout this journey, Nike's loyalty to companions and his rivalry with self-proclaimed heroes like Gail underscore his relationships. He participates in diverse trials, including training sessions to awaken light-based powers and missions to rescue villages like Kochi and Dohgma from sacrificial practices or crises. These experiences hone his decision-making and combat efficacy, though he retains a playful and occasionally reckless disposition.
Nike's development culminates in pivotal confrontations, such as the siege of Giri's castle, where he coordinates with allies against the demon king's forces. His evolution from a reluctant, uncertain adolescent to a more determined participant reflects his narrative arc, marked by incremental gains in courage and tactical acumen despite persistent vulnerabilities.
