TV-Series
Description
Abiru is the chieftain of the Lizardman tribe, ruling over the marshlands of the Jura Forest. He is also the father of Gabiru and Souka. Originally a nameless lizardman, he was a figure of great natural talent, possessing genius-level intellect and unusual combat strength that led to him being regarded as a unique monster and a hero-like existence among his people.
In his early life, Abiru was known for his bold and serious personality, traits that were later complemented by the carefulness and wisdom he gained with age. As a leader, he understands the importance of acting as a symbol of strength and perseverance, carefully concealing his emotions to say only what his people need to hear. His strategic intellect is particularly formidable; he can assess the entire situation of a war at a glance and formulate counter-strategies in an instant, often staying several steps ahead of other commanders. Even his son Gabiru, himself a capable tactician, admits to being completely outmatched by his father's strategic mind. In his personal life, however, Abiru can be stubborn and withdrawn, which sometimes creates distance between him and his children, especially Gabiru, as he has difficulty openly conveying his deep love for them.
Physically, Abiru resembles an anthropomorphic lizard. He has long black hair and green eyes. As a lizardman, his scales were green and he appeared quite elderly, but after being named, he evolved into a Dragonewt. This evolution restored his youth and changed the color of his scales to purple. In his form as a Dragonewt, he possesses scales, horns, wings, and a tail. He also gains the use of the Dragon Scales Skill, which allows him to freely hide these draconic features at will, even enabling him to assume a fully human form.
Abiru's role in the story begins as the leader of the Lizardmen during a time of crisis. He becomes an ally of Rimuru Tempest following the defeat of the Orc Lord, an alliance facilitated by Treyni and Souei. This alliance marks the Lizardmen's integration into the Jura-Tempest Federation. The act of receiving his name from Rimuru is a pivotal moment, granting him significant divine protection and dramatically increasing his power and intelligence, which leads to his evolution into a Dragonewt.
His key relationships are central to his character. With Rimuru Tempest, he is a trusted ally. He has a complex relationship with his son, Gabiru. After Gabiru's rebellion and foolish actions, Abiru felt forced to cut ties and exile him, though he secretly entrusted his weapon to his son. They remained estranged for about two years until the Tempest Festival, where encouragement from Rimuru and others finally allowed father and son to reconcile and speak happily with each other again. In contrast, his relationship with his daughter Souka remains one of respect, as she did not participate in her brother's mutiny.
Development-wise, Abiru's primary transformation is his evolution from an elderly lizardman chieftain into a youthful Dragonewt after being named by Rimuru. Following this, he sends his two children to Rimuru's capital city, hoping they will gain experience and achievements as subordinates. He, in turn, uses his regained youth to continue ruling over the Lizardmen for years to come.
Notable abilities include his genius-level strategic intellect, which is his most prominent trait. After being named, his power and intelligence increased dramatically. As a Dragonewt, he has access to the Dragon Scales Skill, which provides him with a human form and likely enhanced combat capabilities. His overall combat rank is considered to be A.
