OVA
Description
Mōyū, also romanized as Mouyuu, is a supporting character introduced in the fourth season of the anime. She is the younger sister of Moukaku and together they serve as the joint heads of Nanban High School, an institution composed of rogue fighters who have been cast out from the other major schools. The sisters rose to the leadership of Nanban through their demonstrated strength and ruthless nature, and they are feared even among their own peers. Mōyū is physically distinct, with pale skin, shoulder-length blue hair, black eyes, and an eyepatch covering her right eye. Her standard attire includes a katana, boots, shorts, and a lab coat, and she frequently bears a tattoo.
In terms of personality, Mōyū is the more level-headed and composed half of the duo when compared to her explosive elder sister. She possesses a cool and collected demeanor, but beneath that surface she is equally violent and does not hesitate to eliminate those who stand in her way. Despite her brutality, she also displays a sense of honor and a willingness to accept the consequences of defeat, which sets her apart as a character with internal principles.
Mōyū and Moukaku initially ally with Kentei, the puppet emperor figure, to pursue control over the Kanto region. They orchestrate the Great Fighters Tournament as a trap to draw the main fighters from Nanyo, Kyocho, and Seito into a confrontation on their home ground. During the ensuing conflict, Mōyū engages in a one-on-one duel with Chou'un Shiryuu of Seito Academy, a fight that carries the fate of Seito itself. Although Mōyū initially matches Chou'un in strength and forces a retreat, she returns for a second confrontation and is decisively overpowered. Facing absolute defeat, she prepares to take her own life rather than live with dishonor. She is stopped at the last moment by Ryuubi Gentoku, whose fluctuating power saves her and forces Mōyū to reconsider her worldview and her ambitions for conquest.
This pivotal moment sparks a significant character development. After being spared, Mōyū abandons her former alliance and shifts her loyalty to Seito. She eventually aids them in destroying Kentei's stronghold within Nanban, directly preventing his full revival. Her journey from an antagonistic force driven by ambition to a reluctant ally who finds a new perspective on power and rulership represents her primary arc in the narrative.
Mōyū's key relationship is with her sister Moukaku, with whom she shares a leadership role and a deep bond based on mutual strength. Her rivalry with Chou'un is central to her story, as their fights force Mōyū to confront her own limitations and mortality. Her encounter with Ryuubi is the turning point in her life, as it introduces her to the possibility of mercy and a different kind of strength not based solely on domination.
As a fighter, Mōyū is a skilled swordswoman who wields a katana with precision and power. Her abilities are sufficient to initially challenge Chou'un, one of the strongest fighters from Seito, indicating a combat level well above the average fighter. She is agile, tactical in battle, and does not shy away from lethal force. Her fighting style reflects her cool temperament, relying on calculated movements rather than brute rage.
