Description
Pepesha Andrianov, also known by the hero alias Spirits, is the hero representing Russia in the anime Shy. She is a woman in her late twenties, tall in stature with a fair complexion and long, wavy blonde hair, standing around 174 centimeters. People close to her privately call her Pesha. She is widely beloved as a national hero and has a large following among the heroes of the series.

Pepesha comes from a background shaped by her late mother, Lenya, who used to drink in order to show emotions to her daughter. Pepesha inherited this habit and is well known for it, as she is frequently seen drunk. Drinking makes her relaxed, outgoing, and expressive, while without alcohol she would be a very quiet person, to the point where she tells the young Japanese hero Teru that she would not even recognize her if sober. Her drinking is therefore tied to her emotional nature and her difficulty expressing herself otherwise, rather than simply being a comic flaw.

In personality, Pepesha is openly friendly and warm, with a strong sense of empathy and a genuine desire to help others. When under the influence, she becomes blunt, assertive, and unafraid to say what is on her mind, but she never loses her care for the people around her. Despite her carefree appearance, she deeply understands the harsh realities of being a hero and takes her duty seriously.

Her motivations center on protecting civilians and fulfilling her role as Russia's hero, which includes helping defend the Earth's heart alongside the other national heroes. She also feels a strong personal drive to support and guide younger heroes, especially Teru Momijiyama. Pepesha is the one who recruits Teru to help protect the Earth's heart, and she acts as her mentor and older sister figure throughout the story. When Teru goes missing or struggles with her confidence, Pepesha is among the first to search for her, offer advice, and lend practical aid on rescue missions. Their relationship is one of the closest between heroes in the series, built on mutual trust and Pepesha's genuine affection for the younger girl.

Pepesha's abilities come from a heat conversion bracelet that synchronizes her heart spirit into power, granting her superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. Her signature powers involve controlling smoke and manipulating gases in the atmosphere, and she can also turn her entire body into smoke, making her intangible and immune to physical attacks. She uses this ability both offensively and for support, such as searching for civilians and trapping enemies during team battles. Her signature attack is called the Gas Cannon. Later in the story, after a battle in Russia, she gains additional ice-based powers by wearing a ring made from an artifact left by Tzveta Kooriskaya, which allows her to freeze a wide area using an attack called the Subzero Cannon. Even before receiving formal hero training, she was able to apprehend a gang of robbers on her own, showing that her strength and instincts were notable from early on.

Over the course of the series, Pepesha develops from a seemingly carefree drunkard into a reliable emotional pillar of the hero team. Her experiences and her bond with Teru reveal a more serious and nurturing side, as she passes on her knowledge of hero work and helps the younger generation face the emotional weight of their responsibilities. Her growth is centered on embracing her role not just as a fighter but as a mentor, friend, and protector.
