TV-Series
Description
Pepesha Andreianov, also romanized as Pepesha Andreanova and sometimes credited as Pepesha Andranof, is a major supporting character in the anime Shy, where she operates as the national hero of Russia under the alias Spirit. She is a 27-year-old woman of Russian nationality, born on November 30, standing 174 centimeters tall with a fair complexion, long wavy blonde hair with spiky bangs, and blue eyes. She is a veteran hero who functions as a mentor and close friend to the series' protagonist, Teru Momijiyama, also known as Shy.

Pepesha's background is shaped heavily by her late mother, Lenya, who was also a hero. Pepesha inherited both her sense of duty and her drinking habit from her mother, who used alcohol as a way to express emotions more openly toward her daughter. Pepesha was also an orphan, and this tragic past underlies much of her behavior and emotional struggles. Even before receiving formal hero training, she demonstrated natural aptitude for heroics, having once apprehended a gang of robbers on her own. Within the hero community, she is one of the most popular and publicly admired heroes, known both for her accomplishments and her striking appearance.

Personality-wise, Pepesha is best known for being an alcoholic and is almost always seen drunk. Drinking makes her relaxed, blunt, vocal, and assertive; under the influence, she speaks her mind freely, can be crude or boisterous, and does not hold back her true self. She herself notes that if she were sober, she would not even recognize Teru. Without alcohol, she becomes a very quiet person, and by her own comparison she might be even more timid than the notoriously shy Teru. Despite her carefree and sometimes excessive exterior, she is a deeply reliable hero and friend who understands the harsh realities of her profession, and she sincerely wants to prepare Teru for those realities rather than shield her from them.

Her motivations are tied to her mother's legacy and to her grief. She drinks partly to unlock the emotions she otherwise struggles to show, a pattern learned from Lenya. Her duties as Russia's hero include protecting the Earth's heart alongside the other international heroes, and she takes her role as a guide for the younger generation seriously. She is especially invested in Teru's growth, offering advice drawn from her own experience and checking on Teru during difficult moments. When Shy disappeared from public life, Pepesha was the first hero to search for her, and she was also the first to lend Teru a hand during rescue operations. She has a long-standing professional relationship with David Wonder Jones, the hero of the United Kingdom known as Stardust, and with Uni-Lord, the commander of the world's heroes, and she operates alongside them and other national heroes, including from the shared space-based hero hideout.

In the story, Pepesha serves as a primary mentor figure and older-sister-like presence to Teru. She provides both emotional support and pragmatic guidance, often offering the kind of tough honesty that helps Teru confront her fears. Her role expands as the heroes face the threat of the group Amarariruku. A significant part of her development comes when she confronts Tzveta, a member of that organization who resembles her deceased mother. This encounter forces her to face her unresolved grief and reconcile what she lost with what she has become as a hero, marking a turning point in her personal arc.

Pepesha's abilities derive from a heat conversion bracelet, a device used by the heroes that converts the wielder's heart spirit into power. Through this, she gains superhuman strength, speed, and endurance, as well as her signature power: the ability to control gases and smoke. She can turn her own body into smoke or gas, becoming intangible and largely immune to physical attacks. In combat, she uses this to evade, phase through objects, trap enemies, and search for civilians in chaotic situations, and her signature finishing technique is called Gas Cannon. These abilities make her especially effective in rescue operations and team fights, where her smoke allows her to cover ground, locate people, and control the battlefield.
