Description
Charlotte Beatrix Marie Rhody Wyndham is the crown princess of the kingdom of Midland and first in line for the throne. She is introduced as a sheltered and delicate young woman, having been raised largely apart from the outside world and protected within the walls of the royal palace. Her personality is defined by her timidity and reserved nature, often feeling uncomfortable in the presence of stern soldiers or military figures. Despite her high status, she initially lacks confidence in her royal responsibilities and is somewhat naive about the world beyond her immediate surroundings.

Throughout the Golden Age Arc, Charlotte becomes deeply captivated by Griffith, the charismatic leader of the Band of the Hawk. Her affection for him begins almost immediately, as she is drawn to his noble demeanor and the sense of connection he offers, which stands in stark contrast to the formal constraints of her royal life. She falls in love with him, and this relationship becomes a central driving force in her life. After Griffith is imprisoned and brutally tortured for his night with her, Charlotte remains devoted to him, refusing to abandon her feelings even when faced with his broken and deformed state. Her loyalty proves to be unshakeable, as she actively assists Guts and the remaining members of the Band of the Hawk in their dangerous mission to rescue Griffith from the Tower of Rebirth. She goes so far as to offer herself as a hostage to aid in their escape, demonstrating a quiet but profound courage.

Her relationship with her father, the King of Midland, is deeply troubled. Although the king claims to adore her, Charlotte feels a distinct estrangement from him. After the king discovers that she slept with Griffith, he has the mercenary leader arrested and tortured for an entire year. The situation becomes even more traumatic when the king later attempts to assault his own daughter, an act of violation that causes Charlotte to reject him entirely, ceasing to consider him her father and refusing to see him even on his deathbed. This experience deepens her isolation and solidifies her emotional break from her former life.

Following the chaos of the king's death and the Kushan invasion of Midland, Charlotte is taken captive by Emperor Ganishka and imprisoned in the Tower of Rebirth, where he intends to force her into marriage. She is eventually rescued by the reborn Band of the Hawk under Griffith's leadership. After her rescue, she accepts Griffith's marriage proposal and stands beside him as his fiancée and the queen of the newly established capital city of Falconia, where she symbolizes legitimacy and continuity for his rule.

While Charlotte does not possess any notable combat abilities or supernatural powers, her practical skills include cooking and embroidery, and she has shown an aptitude for sewing and creating tapestries. She is also capable of practical thinking, as seen when she bribed soldiers to help clear a path for Griffith's rescue. Over the course of the story, she evolves from a timid, sheltered princess into a more resilient figure who actively defies her father's tyranny and demonstrates unwavering loyalty and hope in the face of immense personal tragedy.
