Description
Aichi Sendō is a central figure in the Cardfight!! Vanguard series, born on June 6. He has blue hair and blue eyes, a slender build, and lives with his mother Shizuka and younger sister Emi. As a child, he was shy and frequently bullied until a pivotal encounter with Toshiki Kai, who gave him the Blaster Blade card. That moment gave him courage and introduced him to the world of Vanguard, transforming his personality from withdrawn to determined and strategic. In non-battle situations he remains kind, humble, and slightly reserved, but during cardfights he radiates intense focus. He is highly perceptive and empathetic, though sometimes oblivious to social cues.
Aichi possesses a psychic ability called PSYqualia, which allows him to sense the will of units from the planet Cray and foresee the flow of a battle. This power initially led him toward arrogance and ruthlessness when he adopted Shadow Paladins, but with Kai’s help he rejected its corrupting influence. Later, after defeating the alien Link Joker threat, a seed of Link Joker was planted inside him. To prevent it from consuming him and opening a doorway for invasion, he sealed himself in a lunar sanctuary called the Moon Sanctuary, erasing all memories of his existence from everyone on Earth except Kai, who retained his memory through Blaster Blade. He appointed the Quatre Knights as guardians. During this time his power became tainted, manifesting as Blaster Joker and using the Lock mechanic. He was eventually freed when Kai defeated him, restoring the memories of others.
By the events of Cardfight!! Vanguard GZ, Aichi has matured into a supportive role. He studied abroad in the United States, focusing on cosmology and astrophysics, and returns to investigate new crises. He uses a Royal Paladin deck incorporating Stride mechanics and serves as a mentor to the next generation, including Chrono Shindou. His bond with Toshiki Kai remains his most significant relationship, and he shares deep connections with Misaki Tokura, Kamui Katsuragi, and Kourin Tatsunagi.
In an alternate storyline, a version of Aichi never received Blaster Blade from Kai. Remaining timid and isolated, he developed a twisted form of PSYqualia and became the main antagonist, seeking to eradicate Vanguard to ensure Kai’s happiness. He wielded Majesty Lord Blaster, created a floating castle called Sanctuary, and led an organization named Jammer. This version was defeated by Kai, Ren Suzugamori, and Kouji Ibuki, which restored the original timeline.
