Description
Professor Yamaguchi, called Yamaguchi-sensei in the original Japanese, is a teacher at Fuurin Middle School in the anime Major 2nd. His main connection to the story comes from his position as the faculty advisor of the school baseball club, the team that the series follows. He is described as having no real understanding of baseball, and this lack of knowledge shapes his presence around the team. In practical terms, he is the adult responsible for the club in an official sense, overseeing its existence as a school club, but he does not provide coaching or tactical input, since the sport itself is largely outside his area of expertise. His personality is presented through this contrast: he is a schoolteacher carrying out a duty rather than a baseball enthusiast or a mentor figure. His personal background and inner motivations are not developed in the anime; he appears mainly to occupy the advisor role that the club needs to remain an active school organization. His relationships with the students are limited to the teacher-student framework, and he does not form a close bond with any individual player. The character does not undergo significant development over the course of the series and has no notable athletic or coaching abilities, with his ordinary teaching duties being the extent of what he brings to the story. His narrative function is therefore mostly that of background support: he gives the team its official status within the school while the genuine baseball leadership comes from elsewhere.
