Description
Leon Aurenche is the main antagonist of the 2020 Shadowverse anime and also appears as a supporting character in Shadowverse: Champion's Battle and Shadowverse Flame. He is the chief executive officer of Genesis Corporation, the company that created the digital card game Shadowverse. Leon is one of only a handful of Grandmaster-ranked players in the world, demonstrating exceptional skill and strategic thinking in the game. His past is tied to the Tree of Blessings, a project his company originally developed to bring good fortune to the world, but which ultimately backfired and transformed into the catastrophic Tree of Woe, threatening global destruction. To counteract this disaster, Leon invented Shadowverse as a means of sealing the Tree of Woe's power. He previously played the Havencraft class but later adopts the Portalcraft class. Leon's personality is calm, calculating, and businesslike, often appearing as a composed and authoritative figure. His primary motivation is to prevent the world's destruction and take responsibility for the damage caused by Genesis Corporation's creation. In the story, he initially acts as a mysterious and formidable adversary, orchestrating the Shadowverse Grand Prix and offering to hand over his presidency to the winner. Over time, his role shifts from antagonist to a more collaborative presence, working alongside protagonists such as Hiro Ryugasaki and his friends to resolve the overarching crisis. He has a professional connection to Hiro's parents, Eiji and Asagi, who assisted in researching the Tree of Woe and helped create the Shadowverse game. Leon's development involves a gradual move from lone, secretive schemer to a figure who trusts others to help carry the burden. His notable abilities include deep game knowledge, advanced deck-building, and the capacity to synchronize with the mystical aspects of Shadowverse, allowing him to channel its power for practical purposes. He remains a key figure across multiple arcs of the franchise, bridging the gap between the corporate world of Genesis and the worldwide player community.
