Description
Hikari Kujo is the human embodiment of the life force of the Queen of the Garden of Light. She came into existence following the Queen's final battle with the Dark King, which caused the Queen's essence to split into three distinct parts: the Heartiels, which represent her will; the Queen Chairect, which represents her heart; and Hikari herself, who represents the Queen's life. Initially manifesting in the human world, Hikari has lost all memories and abilities from her existence as part of the Queen, leading her to live as a seemingly ordinary, passive girl. She enrolls at Verone Academy and begins working at a mobile food stall run by Fujita Akane, who introduces her as a cousin.

Due to her amnesia and new existence, Hikari initially has the personality of a blank slate, which causes her to come across as naive, innocent, and wide-eyed as she adjusts to her sudden life. She is fundamentally a nice, caring, and highly polite individual who is very considerate towards others. It is difficult to upset her, and her gentle, passive disposition often becomes a source of worry for those who care about her. To avoid troubling or upsetting the people around her, Hikari has a tendency to keep her concerns and worries to herself. She is often found staring at the sky, a habit that reflects her constant, quiet wonder about her mysterious past and her origins.

Hikari's primary motivation throughout her story is to understand her own identity and her connection to the Queen and the Garden of Light. Despite her initial passivity, she grasps the concept of her role as a Pretty Cure quickly when it is presented to her. Her actions are largely driven by a desire to protect the friends she makes and to uncover the truth about the mysterious bond she feels with a recurring young boy, who is later revealed to be her biological brother, Hikaru Kujo. In the climax of her initial story, she makes the crucial decision to initiate a self-sacrificial ritual to resurrect the Queen, an act halted by her friends' intervention. Ultimately, after the Queen's revival, Hikari manages to separate from her to live as her own independent person, finding a new sense of self and purpose.

Within her group, Hikari's role is that of a powerful support unit rather than a direct combatant. As Shiny Luminous, she lacks the hand-to-hand combat skills or acrobatic prowess of her partners, Cure Black and Cure White, and often requires their protection in direct confrontations. However, her light-based abilities are crucial for empowering the other Cures and hindering their enemies. She wields the Heartiel Baton to execute the attack Heartiel Action, which can weaken or freeze adversaries and create powerful defensive barriers. She also plays an essential role in performing the teams powerful group finishing moves, such as Extreme Luminario and its upgraded form, Extreme Luminario Max.

Hikari's most significant relationships are with her two senior Pretty Cure partners, Misumi Nagisa and Yukishiro Honoka. They meet her at Akane's food stall and quickly befriend her, subsequently becoming protective guides who show her many things about life in the Garden of Rainbows and often act as motherly figures towards her. She also shares a crucial bond with the fairy Pollun, who runs to her during an attack and enables her transformation into Shiny Luminous via the Touch Commune. She is caring and never yells at Pollun, a fact that initially worries him until she finally expresses anger, which he sees as a sign of care. With Pollun's sister, Lulun, Hikari has a nurturing, motherly relationship and will go to great lengths to protect her. Fujita Akane acts as an employer and older sister figure, providing Hikari with a home and gently scolding her when needed. At school, she becomes good friends with her classmates Tabata Nao and Kagayama Miu, whose personalities are similar to Nagisa and Honoka, which helps her feel comfortable.

Hikari begins her journey as a near-blank slate, devoid of memories and purpose beyond mere existence. Her initial development involves learning the basics of human social interaction and friendship with the help of Nagisa and Honoka. As she forms these bonds, she grows from a passive observer into an active participant in the fight against evil, even if her role is primarily supportive. The central struggle of her character arc is her quest for identity, culminating in the revelation of her origin as the Queen's life and her eventual choice to forge her own path. By the end of her initial story, she achieves the significant milestone of separating from the Queen to live as a fully realized, independent human, gaining not just a life of her own but also a family in her newly discovered brother, Hikaru. In later appearances, such as in the Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~ narrative, she continues to demonstrate her strong moral compass, questioning whether protecting a town is worthwhile if it results in harm to innocent people, and reaffirming her commitment to minimizing harm and protecting others.

As Shiny Luminous, Hikari possesses several notable abilities centered on light-based support and defense. Her primary weapon is the Heartiel Baton, which she uses to perform Heartiel Action, a technique that can encumber enemies and protect her allies. She later receives the Heartiel Brooch from Lulun, which grants her the power to project a protective force field. Her ability to combine her strength with Cure Black and Cure White results in the powerful finishing attack Extreme Luminario, which is later upgraded to Extreme Luminario Max after the Queen is revived. On certain occasions, Hikari can achieve upgraded forms, including a golden-powered form from the first Max Heart movie and a Super Shiny Luminous form from the second movie, which features longer hair, feathery dress accents, and a boost in power, used to restore energy to a phoenix ally. In crossover films, she has also attained a Rainbow Shiny Luminous form, which resembles her Super Shiny Luminous outfit.
