Description
Daigo Kabuto is a character who originates from the mobile game THE iDOLM@STER SideM, and he is part of the idol unit F-LAGS alongside Ryo Akizuki and Kazuki Tsukumo. Born in Hiroshima on May 20th, Daigo is fourteen years old, with a height of 160 centimeters and a weight of 52 kilograms. His right-handed, blood type AB, and enjoys fighting games in his free time.
Daigo's background is highly unusual for an idol, as he is a former Yakuza family heir. He is the youngest of five brothers and was unexpectedly appointed by his grandfather to become the sixth generation head of the Kabuto family, a decision that led to conflict with his older siblings. Seeing the turmoil and the disappearance of smiles within his family, Daigo relinquished the title to one of his brothers and moved to Tokyo to prevent further arguments, a decision that has made returning to his hometown a sensitive issue. He maintains a close relationship with his grandfather through letters. Because of his standing, Daigo is regularly followed by discreet bodyguards who refer to him as Sixth Chairman and whose intimidating appearances he often tries to soften by encouraging them to smile. Daigo is generally private about his family, usually referring to their work as a family business when asked.
In terms of personality, Daigo is a dedicated, friendly, and thoughtful individual who maintains a positive outlook. His central motto and goal is that smiles are the most important thing, and he aspires to become a top idol who can bring happiness to the entire world. He is unfailingly kind to everyone he encounters, always giving them the benefit of the doubt and rushing to help strangers in need, whether by helping a woman find her lost purse or checking on someone who has fallen. This helpful and compassionate nature is a core part of his character. Daigo is also a hard worker who gives his all to his idol activities, driven by both his Yakuza upbringing and a desire not to let his unit members down. He is often self-conscious about his singing voice, which has been described as merely passable, but he compensates for this with his incredible dancing ability. He is not above embarrassment when caught practicing or perfecting his idol poses by his fellow unit members, but he is always willing to ask them for advice.
Daigo's primary motivation for becoming an idol was his encounter with Ryo Akizuki. After accidentally bumping into Ryo, who was still in female clothing at the time, and later seeing his classmates' reaction to an article about Ryo's announcement as a male idol, Daigo became deeply interested in him and gained the drive to pursue idolhood himself. In 315 Production, he was placed in the same unit as Ryo, along with Kazuki Tsukumo, whom he respectfully refers to as Sensei. Daigo greatly appreciates both of his unitmates; he finds Ryo endlessly interesting regardless of presentation and relies on Kazuki's watchful guidance. As his personal family situation is complicated and painful, Daigo has come to view the members of F-LAGS as his true family, a significant step in his character development. For instance, when given a photo frame meant for a family picture, he chose to have a photo taken of himself with Ryo and Kazuki, with all of 315 Production in the background.
Daigo possesses several notable abilities that stem from his Yakuza upbringing, surprising for a boy his age. He is a skilled practitioner of Iaido, a martial art focused on the quick, controlled drawing of a sword, which has also granted him exceptional concentration. He also has the practical ability to properly put on a yukata in a matter of seconds. While he does not widely discuss the origins of these skills, he sometimes deflects questions by attributing his knowledge to having watched many Yakuza movies with his grandfather. As an idol, Daigo's primary strengths lie in his passionate dancing and his genuine, radiant charisma.
