Description
Hikaru Ichihoshi is a central character in Inazuma Japan, the national soccer team representative in the FFI World Tournament. He plays as a midfielder, wearing the number thirteen jersey, and is recognized for his exceptional analytical skills and tactical intelligence. Standing at a height of 156 centimeters with a birthday on January 23rd, he is thirteen years old at the time of the competition. His name carries the meaning of starlight or star's radiance, which reflects his journey of emerging from a dark past to find his own identity.

Hikaru's background is marked by profound tragedy from a young age. He and his older brother, Mitsuru Ichihoshi, shared a deep passion for soccer, with Hikaru using his natural analytical gifts to help his brother improve his playing techniques, such as advising him on foot positioning for more accurate shots. This supportive relationship was shattered by a devastating car accident that took the lives of their father and ultimately the elder brother, Mitsuru. Unable to cope with the trauma, survivor's guilt, and the immense loss, Hikaru developed a powerful psychological defense mechanism: dissociative identity disorder. He created a new personality based on his deceased, beloved brother, allowing himself to live in the illusion that he was the strong and healthy Mitsuru.

For a significant period, Hikaru operated under this alternate personality, calling himself Ichihoshi Mitsuru. During this time, he became entangled with the Orion Foundation, a corrupt global sports organization. The Foundation promised to provide life-saving medical treatment for his critically ill "younger brother," manipulating his guilt to turn him into an "Apostle of Orion." As part of his mission, he was sent to infiltrate Inazuma Japan with the goal of sabotaging the team's matches through various underhanded means. This internal conflict placed him in a state of constant turmoil, forced to betray the very soccer philosophy he and his brother cherished.

The turning point in his character arc occurs when his Inazuma Japan teammates discover the truth about his split personality and the tragedy that caused it. With their support and understanding, Hikaru is confronted with the reality he has been avoiding: he is not Mitsuru, and his brother has passed away. This crisis forces the two personalities within him to merge, and he finally acknowledges himself as Hikaru Ichihoshi. The person who had been active as the stern and troubled Mitsuru was, in truth, Hikaru all along. Overwhelmed with guilt for his previous actions, he initially attempts to leave the team, believing he does not deserve their forgiveness. However, players like Nosaka Yuuma and Inamori Asuto refuse to let him go, recognizing his true potential and valuing him as a friend and teammate. He learns to reconcile his past and embrace his authentic self, moving forward as a single, integrated person.

Hikaru's personality transforms dramatically throughout the story. As "Mitsuru," he appeared cold, distant, and rarely smiled, carrying the burden of his fabricated duty. After his fusion, he reveals his true nature: a polite, kind, and eager boy who deeply fears being alone or becoming a burden to others. This manifests in a tendency to overcompensate, as seen when he exhausts himself performing small chores for his teammates, from doing laundry to giving shoulder massages, as a way of apologizing for his past mistakes. He is initially hesitant to fully connect with the team but gradually learns to accept their camaraderie.

Several key relationships shape Hikaru's development. Nosaka Yuuma, the "Emperor of Tactics," becomes a particularly significant figure. Recognizing Hikaru's innate analytical genius, Nosaka recruits him, stating that only he can perform a certain role. This validation gives Hikaru a sense of purpose and belonging. He becomes Nosaka's trusted right-hand man, and together they form a formidable strategic partnership, developing the complex hissatsu tactic known as the General. Another crucial relationship is with Froy Girikanan, a player from the Russian national team and the son of the Orion Foundation's chairman. They met in Russia and, despite their differing circumstances, became close friends who share a pure love for soccer. This bond becomes complicated as they face each other as rivals, but their connection ultimately helps Hikaru stay true to himself.

In terms of notable abilities, Hikaru's greatest strength lies in his elite-level analysis and tactical comprehension. He can rapidly dissect an opponent's entire playbook, a skill that allows him to seamlessly coordinate team movements. This strategic mind, combined with his inherited athleticism, makes him a perfect playmaker in the lineage of players like Kidou Yuuto and Nosaka Yuuma. He develops several powerful hissatsu techniques that reflect his celestial motif. For dribbling, he uses Blue Stardust, where he leaps into a cosmic realm of blue stars to blind and bypass opponents. He also masters Last Resort Σ, an evolved, immensely powerful combination shooting technique performed alongside Asuto, Haizaki, and Nosaka. His signature solo shoot is Planet Break, a devastating shot that visualizes the ball destroying a planet as it flies toward the goal.
