Description
Goh's Rotom Phone is a device belonging to one of the main protagonists of the Pokémon Journeys: The Series anime. It was created when a Rotom, a Pokémon with the ability to inhabit and control electronic machinery, took up residence inside Goh's standard smartphone. This specific Rotom was provided by Professor Cerise, who gave both Goh and his friend Ash a Rotom of his own to transform their phones into these advanced multi-purpose devices. The device made its first appearance in the episode Ivysaur's Mysterious Tower!, where it was given to Goh to serve as a guide and a practical tool for his new role as a research fellow at the Cerise Laboratory.

In terms of its role and personality, Goh's Rotom Phone functions primarily as a high-tech smartphone and a fully functional Pokédex. It provides a wide range of services, including making video calls, taking photographs, searching for Pokémon habitats, analyzing terrain, and displaying news and event information. One of its most significant functions is the Pokédex application. After Goh caught his first Pokémon, Scorbunny, the Rotom Phone’s Pokédex app was activated, which played a pivotal role in shaping Goh's journey. The discovery of this app and its ability to log every Pokémon species he captured directly inspired Goh's primary goal of completing the Pokédex and eventually catching the mythical Pokémon Mew. Unlike the more talkative Rotom Pokédex from the Sun & Moon series, or the Team Rocket's distinctly sassy Rotom Phone, Goh's device generally behaves like a standard smartphone, rarely displaying its own personality or speaking unprompted. Its primary role is as an informational tool and a reliable assistant to its Trainer.

Regarding its key relationships and development, the Rotom Phone's most important connection is with its owner, Goh. It is an essential part of his daily life, aiding him in his research and his ambitious project to catch every Pokémon. The phone is also the device through which Goh accesses the Project Mew application, allowing him to register for special missions and track his progress as he works towards his ultimate goal of encountering Mew. As a shared tool provided by Professor Cerise, it also indirectly connects Goh to the wider research community at the Cerise Laboratory. The device itself does not undergo significant personality development, as it remains a consistent and reliable utility throughout the series. However, its functions are frequently utilized to showcase Goh's growth as a Trainer and researcher, highlighting his increasing knowledge and his strategic approach to finding and capturing new Pokémon.

The Rotom Phone possesses several notable abilities that make it indispensable to Goh. Its core capability is the advanced Pokédex function, which can identify a Pokémon simply by pointing the camera at it, instantly providing the Pokémon's name, type, number, height, and other vital information. It also maintains a detailed, numbered list of all the Pokémon Goh has successfully captured, including variations like different sexes or unusually large specimens. The phone includes a variety of other applications, such as a map for locating wild Pokémon, a camera for photography, and a communication system for calls and messaging. Furthermore, it serves as Goh's interface for the World Coronation Series, allowing him to check rankings and find battle opponents. By possessing a smartphone, the Rotom inside also retains the natural abilities of its species, which are Electric and Ghost types, though it rarely, if ever, uses these powers for battle or other actions while in its phone form.
