Description
Daphnes Lauros is a human adventurer and a former member of the Apollo Familia who, after the god Apollos defeat and expulsion from Orario, finds a new home within the Miach Familia alongside her close companion, Cassandra Illion. An eighteen-year-old young woman with sharp eyes and short dark hair, she carries herself with a strong, capable demeanor. Her alias, given by the gods, is the "Laurus fuga," a name which speaks to her nature and abilities as the "Laurel Fugitive".
Forced to join the Apollo Familia after being relentlessly pursued by them for refusing the god's initial advances, Daphnes time under Apollo was marked by a lack of genuine loyalty. She was compelled to serve as a commander during expeditions, a role she excelled in due to her tactical mind, but one she did not choose for herself. Consequently, when Apollo set his sights on Bell Cranel, Daphne felt a distinct sense of sympathy for the young adventurer, understanding well the predicament of being a target of the gods obsessive desire. Despite this, she carried out her orders during the resulting War Game between the Apollo and Hestia Familias without hesitation, believing that loyalty to one's current god is the duty of a Familia member, regardless of personal feelings.
Following Apollos overwhelming defeat, Daphne and her friend Cassandra were unexpectedly granted their freedom. They initially considered joining the Hestia Familia, but upon learning of the Familia's massive two-hundred-million-valis debt, Daphne immediately decided against it, dragging Cassandra away to instead join the Miach Familia, whose financial troubles seemed far more manageable. In her new Familia, led by the kind god Miach, she quickly becomes the primary income earner, taking on the dangerous dungeon-delving duties that her captain, Naaza Erisuis, cannot perform. Her no-nonsense, pragmatic personality makes her a grounding presence, often cutting through the more fantastic or hesitant elements of her companions with her direct and sometimes blunt way of speaking. While she often projects an aura of someone who dislikes troublesome situations, she consistently proves her reliability and courage when her friends are in danger.
The most significant relationship in Daphness life is with Cassandra Illion. The two are near-inseparable friends, with Daphne acting as the more decisive and assertive counterpart to Cassandras timid and hesitant nature. Although Daphne is consistently dismissive and openly skeptical of Cassandras prophetic dreams, this skepticism is not born from a lack of care. On the contrary, she acts as Cassandras protector and handler, scolding her for mumbling about visions but remaining constantly by her side to support her. This dynamic reaches a pivotal turn during a joint Familia expedition to the deeper floors of the Dungeon. When the party is trapped and facing certain death, Cassandra desperately pleads for them to follow a path suggested by her prophecy. Despite her long-held disbelief in the premonitions themselves, Daphne makes a critical choice: she chooses to trust not the dream, but her friend Cassandra. This act of faith and loyalty ultimately saves the entire party.
Daphnes role in the story is that of a seasoned, skilled supporter and a developing leader. Her experience as a commander in the Apollo Familia proves invaluable to her allies. She takes the young supporter Liliruca Arde under her wing, teaching her the fundamentals of tactical command and helping her discover her potential as a party leader rather than a frontline fighter. Daphne herself grows significantly from a person forced into service to a self-determined adventurer. After proving herself in the grueling expedition against the Floor Boss Amphisbaena and other irregular monsters, she successfully levels up to Level 3, a testament to her growth and newfound dedication. During the Great Faction War, she serves as a commander for the allied forces right wing, and in a desperate stand against the powerful warrior Hogni, she uses her unique abilities to endure twenty-three direct strikes, sacrificing herself strategically to exhaust the enemy and secure victory for her side.
As a Level 3 adventurer, Daphnes combat style is a hybrid of speed, tactical command, and surprising resilience. Her final stats at Level 2 were D505 in Strength, E478 in Endurance, B707 in Dexterity, C698 in Agility, and F370 in Magic. She typically wields a short sword named Fencer Laureate, a specially-ordered weapon given to her by Apollo that is both strong and lightweight. Her magic is a protective spell called Raumure, which chants, "Sun of the pursuing sky. All to flee from you. Bloom, armor of laurel." It grants a significant boost to her Endurance and a high enhancement to her Agility, with its power scaling with her Magic stat. She dislikes using this spell because its incantation reminds her of Apollo. Daphne possesses two unique skills. The first is Elios Basthion, which provides a minor boost to Agility and temporarily grants her the Development Ability "Escape" when she is being pursued. The second, Laurus Reese, provides a super-high correction to Endurance when she is exhausted or near death, though the affected area of her skin undergoes a visible mutation, which she personally dislikes.
