Description
Kaguya Shirayuri is a main character in the series, recognized as the younger twin sister of Sakuya Shirayuri. She is a student who initially attends Moonlit Night Academy before later transferring to the idol division of Star Harmony Academy alongside her sister. At 14 years old during her first appearance and standing 156 centimeters tall, she has a birthday on June 9, making her star sign Gemini.

Kaguya is a Cool-type idol whose preferred fashion brand is Moon Maiden, and her stage persona is heavily themed around lunar motifs, often referring to herself as a princess from the moon. Her appearance is nearly identical to that of her sister, featuring magenta downward-angled eyes and long, wavy hair. The key distinction is in the coloring of her hair, which is a midnight blue that gradients into a silvery-blue from the neck down, effectively being the inverse of Sakuya's hair color. She also wears distinct ribbons in her hair, which are purple in the first season and change to burgundy in the second season.

In terms of personality, Kaguya presents a sophisticated and formal demeanor, speaking in a polite, aristocratic manner. She is notably more energetic and outwardly confident than her older twin, often coming across as more assertive and direct. Despite her composed exterior, she possesses several contrasting traits that add depth to her character. She can be prone to moments of "natural airheadedness," such as earnestly insisting on her fictional background of being from the moon. This serious yet occasionally clumsy nature creates an endearing gap between her cool image and her actual behavior. She also has a well-documented, humorous inability to trigger automatic doors, which frequently fail to open for her.

The central relationship in Kaguya's life is with her older twin sister, Sakuya, whom she greatly admires and addresses with the honorific "onee-sama." Kaguya holds the sincere belief that Sakuya is the most brilliant idol and dedicates much of her early actions to supporting her sister from behind the scenes. This deep admiration, however, is also the source of her primary internal conflict. Living in the shadow of a sister she sees as a perfect prodigy leads Kaguya to doubt her own potential as an idol, feeling that her own efforts are mired in mediocrity in comparison. Her specialty is ballet, a skill that contributes to the graceful and refined quality of her stage movements, and she has a fondness for singing and lollipops.

Initially, Kaguya is content to remain a supporter, refusing Sakuya's offer to form a formal unit because she does not feel worthy of sharing the spotlight. Her role in the story pivots when she is forced to stand in for her sister during a performance. Her rendition is well-received, and this event, combined with Sakuya's persistent encouragement, helps her realize that they are stronger together. As Sakuya explains, they alone are fragments or two halves of the moon; only when they unite can they become a full moon and illuminate the stage with their radiant light. This leads Kaguya to accept her sister's proposal, and together they form the Friends unit known as Reflect Moon.

Throughout her development, Kaguya transitions from a doubting behind-the-scenes supporter to a confident performer. Her motivations evolve from simply serving her sister to understanding that she can elevate Sakuya to an even greater brilliance by shining on her own. This growth is further demonstrated when she makes the independent decision to transfer to an idol academy in New York, stepping out of her sister's immediate shadow to pursue her own growth and return as an even more radiant partner. In performance, Kaguya's personal stage aura, or "Individual Aura," is described as a blue crescent moon combined with a golden torch, symbolizing her cool, lunar elegance combined with a newfound, burning determination. Her notable abilities include fortune-telling using a crystal ball, which contrasts with her sister's use of dice, though she ironically lists fortune-telling among her dislikes.
