OVA
Description
Miguela is the wife of Ivan Gaganoff and the mother of their young son, Andrei. She comes from a family connected to the military of a fictional country called the U‑ran Union. When her son is diagnosed with Eisenmenger’s syndrome, a severe and life‑threatening heart condition, she and her husband face a desperate situation. Because of their military ties, they are initially unable to leave the country to seek advanced medical care. Their love for their son ultimately outweighs any considerations of honour, high status, or wealth, and they decide to defect by stealing a military jet. They land the aircraft in the garden of the renowned surgeon Black Jack, hoping he can save Andrei’s life.

Miguela is a deeply caring and selfless woman whose primary motivation is the wellbeing of her child. She is willing to abandon her home, her social position, and everything familiar to give Andrei a chance at survival. Throughout the story, she remains focused on her son’s condition, showing quiet strength and vulnerability in equal measure. Her emotional state reflects the tension between hope and fear as Black Jack evaluates and operates on Andrei.

Her role in the story is that of a devoted mother who, together with her husband, provides the emotional core of the episode. She is a supporting character who highlights the lengths to which parents will go for their children. Her key relationships are with her husband Ivan, with whom she shares a unified purpose, and with her son Andrei, whose suffering drives the plot. She also interacts with Black Jack, trusting him with her son’s life despite the extraordinary circumstances of their arrival.

Miguela does not undergo significant personal development over the course of the story, as the single‑episode OVA focuses on the immediate medical crisis rather than long‑term arcs. Her character remains consistent as a compassionate and determined mother. She does not possess any notable abilities or skills beyond her emotional resilience and maternal dedication. Her presence reinforces the theme of parental sacrifice that runs through the episode, and she serves as a counterpoint to Black Jack’s detached, professional demeanor.
