Description
Devil Neko is a character from the anime Tentai Senshi Sunred, serving as a member of the Animal Soldiers. This group is a contingent of puppet-like monsters affiliated with the Florsheim organization, also known as Prosheim, which is dedicated to conquering the world. Among the various monster corps, Devil Neko stands out as one of the few, alongside his ally Usakotsu, who is capable of holding a proper conversation.

In personality and appearance, Devil Neko is defined less by monstrous traits and more by the burdens of middle age. Unlike the overtly cute demeanor of his comrade Usakotsu, Devil Neko embodies the concept of a weary, low-stamina middle-aged man suffering from various adult ailments. He frequently voices complaints about his health, worrying that his body smells like an old man, noting that his voice has grown hoarse, and lamenting that his feet ache when it rains. These mundane, relatable worries are a constant source of humor, as they starkly contrast with his official role as a monster bent on villainy. His personal struggles extend beyond his physical condition; he subtly mentions family problems from time to time, implying that he is married and dealing with domestic life. This everyman quality makes him a pathetic yet endearing figure within the series.

His primary motivation is not grand conquest but rather fulfilling his duties as a member of Florsheim, which usually involves attacking the hero Sunred. However, these attacks are rarely effective. Devil Neko is considered lacking in terms of combat power, and together with Usakotsu, he forms the Animal Soldier corps specifically to confront the hero, though their plans inevitably fail. His role in the story is almost entirely comedic, serving as a foil to the apathetic and powerful Sunred. He represents the lower echelons of the Florsheim organization, whose daily struggles involve mundane health scares rather than epic battles. For instance, during one of his missions, he was diagnosed with fifty shoulders, a type of stiff neck, and was shown to be on the verge of death from a lack of insulin because he forgot to pack his bag while driving. True to the series' humorous and resetting nature, despite these dire predicaments, he returns the following episode as if nothing had happened.

Regarding his relationships, Devil Neko is most closely linked with his fellow Animal Soldier, Usakotsu. Together, they form a duo that is often sent to confront the hero. He also maintains a seniority-based relationship with other monsters, such as the Ant Killer. It is noted that Devil Neko speaks respectfully to his seniors, indicating that he has been an employee of the Florsheim organization for a considerable amount of time. His most critical relationship, however, is with the hero Sunred. From Sunred's perspective, Devil Neko is not a genuine threat but rather a nuisance, an aging antagonist to be dealt with effortlessly.

In terms of abilities, Devil Neko does not possess any extraordinary or world-ending powers. His most notable trait is his ability to speak and articulate the woes of his daily life. He is identified as a form of monster that, while meant to fight, is ultimately low in combat effectiveness. He suffers from a series of debilitating human-like conditions, including diabetes, which he must manage, and joint pain that worsens in wet weather. These physical weaknesses are his defining characteristics, effectively neutralizing any potential threat he might pose as a monster.
