Movie
Description
Eska Bamel, also known by the nickname Eskaba, is a member of the Ogre team. He holds the position of forward, wearing jersey number 9, and serves as one of the team's three forwards, acting as a strategic striker on the field. Physically, Eska has tanned skin and a small, slender build. He possesses spiky, dark blue hair and distinctive black eyes. His most recognizable facial features are the stark black markings that frame his eyes, extending from underneath them to the edges of his face.
Eska comes from a family of military personnel and has an older brother who was expected to follow the same path. However, his brother gave up a military career, which brought shame to their family. Witnessing his family's disappointment, Eska made a firm vow to never be like his brother. He became a soldier himself, driven by a desire to serve his family and country, which fueled a deep obsession with victory.
Despite his somewhat small stature, Eska is known for being incredibly hot-blooded and aggressive. He frequently shouts and becomes enraged if a scoring opportunity is taken from him. This fiery exterior, however, masks a sharp strategic mind. He is a talented strategist who earned the respect of his peers and instructors at Ogre Gakuen for his intelligence, blunt honesty, and ability to analyze war strategies. He leads his own group of followers within the academy. While he is aware of his own abilities, he acknowledges the superiority of his teammate, Baddap. During a strategy debate, Eska focused solely on achieving victory, while Baddap argued for winning in a way that also psychologically dominated the opponent. After losing the debate, Eska quietly accepted Baddap's supremacy, becoming the first person he ever truly respected.
In the story, Eska and the Ogre team travel from 80 years in the future to alter the past by eliminating Endou Mamoru's influence on soccer. The team first appears at the Football Frontier tournament, where they easily defeat Zeus Academy. In the final match against Raimon, Eska initially does not take the game seriously. After receiving an order from Baddap, he begins playing earnestly. He successfully uses his shooting technique Death Rain to break through Endou's God Hand and score a goal. Later in the match, he combines with teammates Mistrene Callous and Baddap to perform the combination shot Death Break, but it is ultimately blocked by Raimon's Omega The Hand. Despite their power, Ogre loses the match to Raimon. Following their defeat, the Ogre team comes to understand the true meaning of Endou's philosophy of enjoying soccer.
Eska shares an important dynamic with Baddap, whose strategic thinking he has come to respect above all others. He also has a notable relationship with Mistrene Callous. The two are often seen standing together and bicker frequently, like a comedic duo. While he appears harsh and sarcastic, even mocking Endou's love for soccer, Eska also shows a softer, more gentle side when he hears Endou speak about enjoying the game.
Throughout the movie, Eska shows a slight development in his worldview. He begins as a soldier fixated only on completing his mission and winning at all costs. By the end of the match against Raimon, he and his team realize there is more to soccer than just victory. They attempt to make peace with their opponents but are suddenly summoned back to their own time before they can say goodbye. In the novelization of the story, Eska initially holds an antipathy towards Baddap's leadership but gains an understanding of him after a discussion about strategy simulations, coming to realize that Baddap is deeply concerned about the future of their country.
As a player, Eska is known for possessing very high Technique Points, allowing him to use powerful shots multiple times. His notable abilities are his shooting techniques. His individual shooting move is Death Rain, a powerful shot capable of breaking through legendary goalkeeper Endou's God Hand. He is also a key component of the combination shot Death Break, which he performs with Mistrene Callous and Baddap.
