Description
Kaede Hanamiya is a supporting character in Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! and is the paternal grandmother of the protagonist, Tsubasa Shiki. At 66 years old, she lives with her grandson and acts as his primary guardian and authority figure in their household. Kaede has a strict and no-nonsense personality, believing firmly in maintaining order through clear rules. She has a well-known proclamation: "In this house, I make the rules," a philosophy she backs up with practical measures like setting curfews for Tsubasa.

Her motivations center on ensuring her grandson grows up disciplined and successful, likely influenced by her traditional values. This drive leads her to present challenges for Tsubasa, which become key plot points. For instance, when Tsubasa's school performance begins to slip, which she attributes to distractions from the local girls like Minami Fuyuki, she delivers an ultimatum. She threatens to send him back to Tokyo unless he ranks within the top ten on his school exams, viewing any failure as simple carelessness on his part.

Despite her tough exterior and strict methods, Kaede does show a capacity for growth and affection, particularly in her relationships. She is initially wary of Minami Fuyuki, finding the gal too familiar and potentially a bad influence on her grandson. However, over time, Kaede comes to trust Minami, recognizing her as someone who genuinely makes Tsubasa smile. While she holds what seem to be exaggerated prejudices about surviving Hokkaido's harsh winters, telling a reluctant Tsubasa that braving a blizzard is necessary to become a true resident, she ultimately proves to be reasonable. After Tsubasa successfully meets her academic challenge by placing third in his grade, she stops her interference, showing that her demands are backed by genuine care for his future rather than simple tyranny.
