Description
Shun Higashida serves as a Technical Officer aboard the Space Battleship Yamato, holding the rank of Third Lieutenant within the Technical Division. Born on August 17, 2186, he is twenty-one years old. Higashida is a graduate of the 38th class of the Space Defense Academy. His early career was marked by a confrontational nature; immediately after the announcement of his assignment during a training voyage in 2205, he openly criticized Tasuke Tokugawa for what he perceived as a promotion based on factors other than merit. This outburst led to a physical brawl with Heiji Bando, and he continued to protest even while being restrained by Toru Hoshina.
Higashida is defined by a strong sense of conviction and a refusal to accept decisions he considers unfair or based on connections rather than ability. His personality is direct, impulsive, and prone to challenging authority or circumstance when his principles are violated. This fiery temperament, however, is balanced by a deep dedication to his technical craft. Before joining the Yamato, he worked on the spaceship Asuka before being secretly summoned to the Icarus Observatory to participate in the renovation of the Yamato itself.
His primary motivation is to prove himself and fulfill his duties based on skill and effort, a value he holds in high regard. He is driven to carry out his mission effectively, working under the guidance of Shiro Sanada, an officer he greatly respects. Higashida’s professional life is heavily defined by his rivalry with Heiji Bando, as the two work alongside each other within the Technical Division. Their relationship, which began with a physical altercation, evolves into a dynamic of competitive cooperation, pushing each other to excel.
Throughout his service on the Yamato, Higashida undergoes development from a hotheaded cadet willing to brawl over a perceived injustice into a functioning member of a critical shipboard division. He channels his earlier rebellious energy into his technical duties, learning to operate within the chain of command while retaining his outspoken nature. There is no specific information regarding notable abilities distinct from his technical training and role as a support officer on the Yamato.
