Description
Shingo Izumi is a detective with the Metropolitan Police Department and the older brother of Hina Izumi. His life takes a dramatic turn when he is mortally wounded during an investigation into the Greeed, ancient creatures of desire. To save him from death, the disembodied Greeed known as Ankh fuses with his body, using Shingo as a living vessel. This creates a dual existence where the two share a single form, with Ankh typically in control, which is indicated by Shingo's hair spiking up and changing to a dull blonde color.
Shingo's original personality is that of a kind and gentle individual who is dedicated to his work as a police officer. He shares a close and caring bond with his sister, Hina. In contrast, Ankh is calculating, arrogant, and driven almost entirely by self-interest, viewing humans as tools to help him collect the Core Medals he needs to fully resurrect himself. This dichotomy is central to the character's dynamic, as the two are complete opposites sharing one body.
In the film OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let's Go Kamen Riders, Eiji Hino, who transforms into Kamen Rider OOO, and Ankh (in Shingo's body) team up with Kotaro Nogami and the Imagin Momotaros. Their mission is to travel back in time to 1971 aboard the Den-Liner to stop the Mole Imagin from altering history. However, Ankh's insatiable desire to obtain Core Medals while in the past triggers an unforeseen chain of events. His actions result in the organization Shocker conquering the world, completely changing the 40-year history of the Kamen Riders. This places the group in a race against time to restore the original timeline.
The symbiotic relationship between Shingo and Ankh is a key part of their story. Initially, Shingo is kept barely alive by Ankh's presence and cannot survive for long without him. If Ankh leaves his body for an extended period, Shingo's condition deteriorates rapidly. Conversely, when Ankh is in control, the human Shingo is in a comatose state but can observe the outside world and experience what Ankh experiences. Over time, Shingo's body slowly heals, and he begins to regain his own consciousness, demonstrating a quiet resilience. He eventually fully recovers after Ankh is separated from him, at which point he uses the knowledge he gained while observing events from within his own body to become a supporter for Eiji Hino.
Notable abilities are tied more directly to Ankh than to Shingo. As a Greeed, Ankh's true form is a red, bird-like right arm. In this state, he can levitate and fire energy blasts shaped like wings. When possessing Shingo's body, Ankh gains a human form that allows him to move freely in society. While in control, he retains his immense knowledge of the Core Medals and their powers, which he uses to guide Eiji in battle by selecting and tossing him the appropriate medals. He also appears to possess enhanced strength and combat skills, as Shingo, even before the possession, was capable of subduing criminals with great force. Their most prominent shared ability in the film is the power to travel through time via the Den-Liner to correct the altered history.
