Description
Eiji Hino is a young man who appears aimless and without ambition, spending his days wandering and taking on various part-time jobs. He has a habit of claiming he has known someone for a long time even when they have just met and often expresses a simple yet profound concern: securing a fresh pair of underwear for the next day. This seemingly carefree exterior, however, conceals a deeply traumatic past. Born the son of a wealthy politician, Eiji once used his family's resources to fund humanitarian efforts. While traveling in a country torn by civil war, he befriended a young girl in a village he was trying to protect. The trauma of seeing her killed by a missile strike, combined with the realization that one of his own fundraisers had inadvertently financed the conflict, left him deeply scarred. Following his rescue, he rejected his privileged background and his father's surname, adopting his mother's maiden name, Hino, and dedicating his life to helping others without any thought for himself. This lack of personal desire, or greed, made him the ideal candidate to become Kamen Rider OOO.

In his role as the protagonist, Eiji is forced into an uneasy alliance with Ankh, a disembodied arm of a Greed, a monster born from pure desire. Ankh grants Eiji the power to transform into Kamen Rider OOO in exchange for helping him collect Core Medals. Eiji’s primary motivation is not personal gain but the protection of others. He operates on a simple, immediate principle: to save the person in front of him, even at great personal risk. He often acts as the voice of reason, advocating for the value of human life against the monstrous Greeeds who see humans as mere tools. This puts him in direct opposition to figures like the well-meaning but eccentric Kousei Kougami of the Kougami Foundation, who supports Eiji's battles, and the nihilistic Doctor Maki.

Eiji's most significant relationship is with Ankh. Their partnership is strained and built on mutual need rather than trust; Ankh sees Eiji as a tool to gather medals, while Eiji tolerates Ankh's ruthless pragmatism for the power to save people. Over time, this evolves into a deeper, grudging respect and a complex bond, as Ankh begins to learn about humanity and Eiji comes to understand Ankh's own desperate desire for existence. Another key relationship is with Hina Izumi, whose brother Shingo has had his body taken over by Ankh. Eiji feels a strong responsibility to protect Hina, and her straightforward kindness provides him with emotional support. His past trauma also creates a connection with Akira Date and Shintaro Goto, other fighters who come to understand and support his selfless mission.

Eiji undergoes significant development, largely driven by his internal emptiness. The very lack of desire that allows him to harness the OOO Driver also makes him a perfect vessel for the dangerous purple Core Medals of the Putotyra Combo. When these medals enter his body, they begin to transform him into a Greed, causing him to slowly lose his human senses, starting with taste. He struggles to control this overwhelming power, fearing that giving in to his own desire for strength will turn him into the very monsters he fights. His arc culminates in confronting his suppressed desire and accepting that his wish for the power to protect others is a valid form of wanting. In the film OOO, Den-O, All Riders: Let's Go Kamen Riders, Eiji and Ankh team up with Kotaro Nogami and the Imagin Momotaros. When Ankh's pursuit of Core Medals in the past alters the history of the Kamen Riders and creates a dystopian timeline where the evil organization Shocker rules the world, Eiji must work together with this unlikely team and other legendary Riders to travel back in time, correct the timeline, and defeat Shocker.

As Kamen Rider OOO, Eiji’s abilities are based on using three Core Medals at a time to transform. Each Medal corresponds to a different animal, and by swapping them in the OOO Driver, he can change his head, arms, and legs individually, allowing for a vast array of strategic combinations. When he uses a matching set of three Medals from the same animal group, he achieves a Combo, a specialized and powerful form. His standard form is Tatoba Combo, using the Taka (Hawk), Tora (Tiger), and Batta (Grasshopper) Medals. Other Combo forms include Gatakiriba (insect-based, capable of creating clones), Latorartar (feline-based, with blinding speed and light attacks), Sagohzo (heavy mammal-based, with immense strength and gravity control), Shauta (aquatic-based, allowing him to turn into water and fight underwater), and the fire-based flying form, Tajador Combo, which holds a special connection with Ankh. The most dangerous and powerful form is the dinosaur-based Putotyra Combo, which grants him the ability to destroy Core Medals but carries a high risk of making Eiji go berserk, symbolizing his ongoing internal battle with his own capacity for desire.
