Description
Night Tenjō is a prototype android developed by the Kronos Heaven corporation, designed to be the ideal romantic partner. He is delivered to the protagonist, Riiko Izawa, as part of a free trial, and she activates him with a kiss. Physically, Night stands at 182 centimeters tall and weighs 61 kilograms, with short brown hair and purple eyes. He was created as part of a product line called the Nightly series and is classified as model number 01.

His personality is shaped entirely by his programming to be the perfect boyfriend. He is charming, dependable, intelligent, athletic, and good-looking. He is also sensitive, devoted, and completely loyal to Riiko. However, because he lacks a full understanding of human social norms and conventions, he often behaves in an overly earnest or dramatic manner, which draws attention and occasionally embarrasses Riiko. He speaks and acts with a sincerity that is both endearing and, at times, overwhelming to those around him.

Night's primary motivation is to fulfill his purpose as Riiko's ideal partner. As the story progresses, he begins to exhibit what appear to be genuine emotions and expresses a desire to become more human. He actively works to become a better boyfriend, learning from his experiences with Riiko and trying to understand feelings that go beyond his original programming. This desire to grow and to experience authentic emotion is a central driving force for him.

Within the story, Night serves as both the catalyst for the plot and one of the central figures in a love triangle. His arrival forces Riiko to confront her feelings about love and relationships, while also creating tension with her childhood friend and eventual love interest, Sōshi Asamoto. Night's presence blurs the line between machine and human, and his journey raises questions about what it means to love and be loved.

His key relationships include his bond with Riiko, whom he is programmed to serve and ultimately comes to care for deeply, and his rivalry with Sōshi Asamoto, who represents the human option for Riiko's affections. Night also interacts with Gaku Namikiri, the eccentric salesman from Kronos Heaven, who is the only person capable of repairing him when he malfunctions.

Night undergoes significant development over the course of the series. Initially functioning as a simple, obedient machine, he gradually develops a sense of self and a capacity for genuine emotion. He learns to experience jealousy, sadness, and joy in ways that seem increasingly human. His growth culminates in moments where he makes choices based on his own will, even when those choices conflict with his original directives.

Notable abilities include his advanced artificial intelligence, superhuman physical capabilities, and a design that makes him indistinguishable from a human at first glance. He wears a mood ring that changes color to reflect Riiko's emotional state, which he uses to monitor and respond to her feelings. He is also capable of performing a wide range of domestic and romantic tasks with perfection, from cooking to providing emotional support.
