Dred Grangil is a descendant of the People of the Vale and the primary antagonist of the films set in Eindoak Town. His ultimate goal is to restore his people's ancient kingdom to its former glory, a dream instilled in him during his childhood when he visited the ruined castle with his mother, Juanita. To achieve this, he seeks to capture the legendary Pokémon Victini to use its power to reactivate the Sword of the Vale, the ancient castle at the heart of Eindoak Town.

Three years before the events of the story, Dred traveled to other communities of the People of the Vale to gather support for his plan but was consistently rejected. After this initial failure, he discovered a Dragon Stone containing either Zekrom or Reshiram in the caves beneath the castle. The legendary dragon agreed to become his ally, finding his unwavering desire to restore the kingdom compelling. With a legendary Pokémon on his side, Dred was finally able to secure the support of the other descendant communities and returned to Eindoak Town to put his scheme into motion.

Dred is characterized by his passionate and single-minded devotion to his beliefs. This intense focus gives him the strength to command a legendary dragon, as his search for the true path to restoring his people resonates with Reshiram, while his strong commitment to his ideals resonates with Zekrom. However, this same fervor makes him dangerously obsessive. He is so blinded by his ambition that he becomes willing to trap Victini in a machine, forcing it to endure torture to fuel the castle's ascent, and he even attacks his own mother when she tries to stop him. Despite these actions, his intentions are never driven by selfishness or a simple lust for power. When he is finally forced by Ash and the legendary dragons to witness the destructive Dragon Force energy his actions have unleashed upon the land, he is immediately filled with deep remorse and acts with equal desperation to undo the damage he has caused.

Dred is the son of Juanita and the older brother of Carlita. While his mother initially supports his dream, she is horrified when she sees the pain he is inflicting on Victini, leading to a direct confrontation between them. Throughout the crisis, Dred works with the mayor of Eindoak Town, Mannes, to execute his plan. His key Pokémon partner varies depending on the film version: in one version, he owns a Reuniclus, while in the other, he has a Gothitelle. He also possesses a Sigilyph, which he uses to manipulate the Protecting Pillars that surround the castle and trap Victini. After his change of heart, Dred helps guide the castle back to safety and overcomes his guilt when his mother reprimands him but also tells him they have much work to do to rebuild the kingdom properly, at which point he cheers up and joins his family in beginning the restoration efforts.
