Description
Alice McKee is a central human character in the 2009 live-action film adaptation of the anime property. She is portrayed as a teenager living in Tokyo during the 1970s, where she attends Kanto High School, which is located on an American military base. Her father holds the rank of General and serves as the base's commander.

In terms of personality, Alice is depicted as a determined and curious individual. She is shown to be a student who struggles with her kendo training, which leads to her being singled out by her instructor for extra practice. This situation, combined with her status as the General's daughter, makes her a target for bullying from fellow students. Rather than being passive, Alice demonstrates a strong will and a desire to uncover the truth. When her accounts of supernatural events are dismissed by her father and other authorities, she takes the initiative to conduct her own investigation, a decision that directly places her in the path of danger.

Alice's primary motivation stems from a combination of circumstance and personal conviction. Initially, she is a typical student whose life is upended when she witnesses a brutal attack, discovering that her bullies are vampires in disguise. Her motivation solidifies into a search for justice and understanding after she witnesses her father's death at the hands of the secretive organization known as the Council. Her father's final act is to give her the address of the vampire hunter Saya, compelling Alice to seek out the one person who can help her.

Within the story, Alice serves as the human point-of-view character, acting as the audience's entry point into the hidden world of vampires and hunters. She is a civilian who gets caught in a conflict far larger than herself, transitioning from a bystander to an active participant. While some sources note her role as being primarily that of a character in the wrong place at the wrong time, her determination to understand the death of her father and the nature of the creatures she has seen drives the second half of the narrative.

The most significant relationship Alice develops is with the protagonist, Saya. Their connection begins when Saya saves Alice's life at school, killing the vampires who were attacking her. Initially, Saya is reluctant to involve Alice further, but after the death of her father, Alice seeks Saya out. Forced to flee together, they form an uneasy alliance. Saya, a half-vampire who has lived for centuries, is contrasted with the very human and vulnerable Alice. Their journey into the mountains to confront the ancient vampire Onigen solidifies their bond, moving from rescuer and protected to partners in survival.

Alice undergoes a significant transformation throughout the film. She begins as a somewhat naive and bullied schoolgirl living a sheltered life on a military base. After being exposed to the reality of vampires and witnessing the murder of her father, she is forced into a world of violence and secrecy. Her arc culminates in her survival of the final battle with Onigen, after which she is found at the wreckage of her vehicle and carried to an ambulance. In the aftermath, she is interviewed about the events but is not believed. Her final line, stating that Saya is "searching for a way back from the other side of the looking glass," shows that her experiences have fundamentally changed her perspective, leaving her as the sole keeper of a truth no one else will accept.

Regarding notable abilities, Alice does not possess any supernatural powers or exceptional combat skills. Her primary strengths are her determination and her investigative nature. She is shown to have some basic, though apparently insufficient, training in kendo as a student, but she is consistently outmatched in physical confrontations and relies on Saya for protection. Her true ability lies in her resilience and her role as a witness to the secret war between humans and vampires.
