Description
Dylan Gould is a human character who serves as a secret antagonist, appearing as the wealthy and charismatic CEO of the investment firm Hotchkiss Gould Investments. His involvement with the Transformers is a legacy, as his father was a NASA accountant who was recruited by the Decepticon Soundwave in the early 1970s. The elder Gould was tasked with manipulating the NASA budget to make further moon landings financially unfeasible, thereby preventing humanity from discovering a lost Cybertronian spacecraft on the lunar surface. As a child, Dylan was introduced to Soundwave by his father, who intended for his son to inherit the role of Decepticon liaison. Soundwave was immediately impressed by the young Dylan's tenacity and ambition, sensing in him a craving for power that surpassed his father's desire for mere wealth.

By the time of the film's events, Dylan had fully taken over his father's responsibilities, using his company and immense resources to help maintain the Decepticons' secrets. On the surface, he presents himself as a charming, sophisticated, and generous businessman with a passion for collecting exotic cars. He employs Carly Spencer as his personal assistant, frequently calling her my duchess, giving her expensive gifts, and using his connections to arrange a job interview for her boyfriend, Sam Witwicky. This overt friendliness masks a deeply manipulative, arrogant, and power-hungry nature. Dylan is driven by a selfish desire for control and a guarantee of his own survival and prosperity, believing that aligning with the stronger side in a war that is not his own is the most practical path to power.

Dylan’s central role in the story is that of a human collaborator who betrays his own species. He exploits his relationship with Sam and Carly to gather intelligence for the Decepticons. When the Autobots plan a counterattack, he is forced by Sam to wear a Decepticon watch that relays information to Dylan. Upon learning that the Autobots plan to flee Earth, Dylan relays the signal for Starscream to shoot down their spacecraft. He later takes Carly hostage, keeping her in his Chicago penthouse while the Decepticons ravage the city, and reveals the full scope of their plan to transport Cybertron into Earth's orbit, for which he has been promised a position of authority over enslaved humanity.

His key relationships are defined by manipulation and exploitation. He holds a possessive fascination with Carly Spencer, treating her as a prized possession. He is a direct antagonist to Sam Witwicky, serving as a dark mirror of the ambitious young man. Sam resents Dylan’s wealth and his closeness with Carly, and Sam ultimately vows to kill him. Dylan’s primary Decepticon contact is Soundwave, who disguises himself as a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG to spy on and later capture Carly. He also interacts with Megatron, whom he privately fears and disdains, and employs a team of five unnamed bodyguards.

Throughout the film, Dylan shows little to no remorse for his betrayal, viewing the Decepticons' invasion and massacre as a necessary business transaction to secure his own future. He displays visible unease during Chicago’s destruction but quickly dismisses it, emphasizing his solipsistic worldview. In the climax, as the Decepticons begin to lose the battle, Dylan takes it upon himself to reactivate the crucial Control Pillar. When Sam confronts him, Dylan refuses to stand down, arrogantly taunting his rival. In the ensuing struggle, Sam strikes Dylan with a piece of rebar, causing him to fall backward into the active Control Pillar, where he is immediately electrocuted and killed.

Dylan possesses no physical superpowers, but his notable abilities stem from his immense wealth, social influence, and business acumen as a CEO. He leverages his company's resources and his position on corporate boards to manipulate events and people. His ability to maintain a charming public facade while executing a treacherous long-term plan demonstrates a high degree of cunning and deceit. Beyond his financial and social capital, his primary asset is his inherited connection to the Decepticons, which he uses to command and coordinate with advanced alien forces to achieve his personal goals.
