Description
Epps Team Stone is a supporting human character who appears in the film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. He is a former member of NEST, the international military task force created to battle the Decepticons alongside the Autobots, and is a personal friend and former colleague of Robert Epps. When Epps decides to assemble a team to venture into Decepticon-occupied Chicago to help Sam Witwicky rescue his girlfriend, Stone is one of the individuals who answers the call.

As a character, Stone exhibits the hardened and wary demeanor of a seasoned soldier. He is practical and aware of the immense danger posed by the Decepticons, but he ultimately demonstrates loyalty to his friend Epps by following him into a war zone. Upon arriving on the outskirts of Chicago and witnessing the scale of the devastation, Stone voices the concern shared by his team, asking Epps if he is truly intending to lead them into what he calls that hell. This moment reveals a sense of self-preservation and a realistic hesitation that tempers his bravery, yet he does not turn back. His plain clothing, notably a Mötley Crüe T-shirt, suggests he has transitioned from active duty military life, blending in as a civilian contractor or mercenary, but he quickly prepares for combat when the situation demands it, such as when he and fellow team member Mongo begin breaking out their weapons upon entering the city.

Stone's primary role in the story is as a member of Epps's fireteam, providing ground support and military expertise during the chaotic battle in Chicago. The team serves as a link to the human military element that had previously worked with the Autobots under the NEST banner. Stone, along with his squadmates Mongo, Hooch, and Marc L, operates with Epps to carve a path through the ruined city. Their objective is to assist Sam and Carly while also engaging Decepticon forces. In one notable sequence, the team takes shelter in a skyscraper to launch a rocket at a Decepticon control pillar, but their plans are disrupted by an attack. During the ensuing chaos, Stone becomes the victim of a notable continuity error; he appears to fall from the building to his death near the Decepticon Shockwave, yet he is inexplicably seen alive and well with the rest of the team later in the film. This suggests that an earlier version of the script may have involved his death, or that it was a simple mistake in editing.

In terms of key relationships, Stone is most closely associated with Robert Epps, whom he trusts enough to follow into a life-threatening situation based on their past service together. He interacts little with the main protagonists, Sam and Carly, but he is part of the military unit that covers their movements. There is a known distinction between the film and the novelization of Dark of the Moon; the character who falls to his death is named Ames in the book, while the film uses Stone for this moment before showing him alive again, indicating that the character's fate was altered during production.

Stone does not undergo significant personal development in the narrative, functioning primarily as a functional member of a larger ensemble rather than a primary focus. His notable abilities are those of a special operations soldier, including proficiency in small arms and explosives, tactical maneuvering in urban combat, and the ability to remain composed under extreme stress from fighting giant alien machines. He is portrayed as capable and resourceful, able to hold his own in skirmishes and survive the collapse of a skyscraper, contributing to the human effort to reclaim Chicago from the Decepticon occupation.
